Mike & I picked Abby's ashes up today. All we said at her last appointment was that we wanted her ashes back. They didn't ask us anything else so it was such actually a nice surprise when we picked her up. We were expecting nothing more than a cardboard box, but the vet's office arranged for her to be placed in a beautiful cedar box, with her name carved in the top! It's so lovely. And they gave us a clay imprint of her sweet little paw. At the moment, I cry every time I touch it, but I know it will make us smile very soon.
Just wanted to let you all know she is back where she belongs.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. But there will be, I assure you, a fourth day when —
along with the memory of your pet —
and piercing through the heaviness in your heart —
there will come a realization that belongs only to you.
It will be as unique and strong
as our relationship with each animal we have loved, and lost.
This realization takes the form of a Living Love —
Like the heavenly scent of a rose
that remains after the petals have wilted,
this Love will remain and grow—
and be there for us to remember.
It is a love we have earned.
It is the legacy our pets leave us when they go —
And it is a gift we may keep with us as long as we live.
It is a Love which is ours alone —
And until we ourselves leave,
perhaps to join our Beloved Pets —
It is a Love that we will always possess.

Now you can have peace in your heart with her next to you.
BUT!!! not in bed with you every night! That would be creepy! (inside joke folks!)
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
When we lost our Belle, I was able to drive her to the pet cremation place and sit and wait. I took a book. They showed me around and talked to me about the impact these pets have on them, and then they showed me a bench outside under a tree where I could read and wait. They let me help put her into the cremation chamber, and then they let me help put her ashes into the special container when all was done. I found the process to be deeply humbling, largely because these strangers treated her with the utmost respect and dignity. I believe that our dogs have the ability to touch strangers in the most unlikely of places, including this one at the end of the journey. Abby touched so many people, and I'll bet she left her mark more deeply than you know.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Jackie and Mike, hugs to you. I was so upset when we picked-up Merlin's remains (Zeus' brother/littermate) that Greg almost had to carry me to the car. Our vet made the paw imprint right before they administered the meds and he earned his wings. It was not fully set when we left and I was so upset on the drive home that I clutched it too hard and made a thumbprint in it. That upset me at first that I "defiled" it, but now it comforts me greatly to see our prints together, side by side as we always were.
Hold her close to your heart until you are together again.
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Oh Jackie, your post just brings tears to my eyes. I'm so glad your sweet girl is home with you now where she belongs. What a loving gesture your vets did - so compassionate. I'm sure this will bring you lots of peace and comfort knowing that she's still right beside you.
Much peace and comfort to you.

My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Abby, may the sweet, salty Pacific Ocean air that you loved so much surround you forever.
It's good to know you're back home, what a comfort for everyone.
