But, I would very much like any help/advice for how to find options for the end. I would like my boy to be let go in his own environment and I would like cremation. How do I find these things?
Thanks for your help with this harsh reality.
Sorry you're having difficulties at this ruff time. Please feel free to contact us with the issues you're having and we'll do our best to resolve it ASAP.
You came to the right place for support and advice, but our readers would need to know where you are to provide local referrals if they know of any. I'd begin by asking your vet. If they are not accommodating, find a new vet. Also check out the book Vet Confidential which really helped us in making preparations and and planning for the inevitable.

I'm sorry. Your vet should be able to help...most vets contract with companies that offer cremation.
I had a dog PTS at home once. My own vet couldn't do it, but referred me to a really compassionate mobile veterinarian. This was for a very social Rottweiler who had many friends, so we had a party for him and he passed in the company of loved ones.
Hugs to you and yours.
I have looked into this and finding a vet that will travel and come to your home is hard to come by. I have contacted the only one in my area which a friend referred me too, and since I was one town over ( out of her territory) is sounded as if it was an inconvenience on her part. Due to her lack of compassion, I decided not to use her. Since the options are limited, and my boy Buster does have lung mets my only option is to take him to the vets office. Also, none will perform this outside since they claim it is against procedure....
I am open to suggestions as well, since I feel the end is near. Buster is starting to cough more frequently.
Concerned,
Kim and Buster

Kim & Buster,
Thank you so very much for responding..I do have a wonderful vet and, I am told, a wonderful mobile vet in my town of Eureka, CA. I will indeed ask them for help, but I really value the information other people may have. I am trying to register on the forum since I realize I can use, like everyone else, all the support I can get. As in all situations, the people dealing with the same things and having the same level of utter devotion and endless love for the wonderful beings in their lives are very precious gifts...

Hi Carina...
Thank you so very much for your ideas and your story....what a wonderful goodbye you gave your puppy. I will look into your suggestions and keep trying to register for this forum as I cannot think of a more wonderful way to find support, help and a place to vent and be completely understood.
I very much appreciate your time.
Thanks...Kirby
Hopefully Jim or Rene the site owners can figure out a way to help you get registered here...one thought is to try another browser? If you use Internet Explorer, try Firefox, or vice versa.
Do share more about your dog when you can...you are definitely among people who understand, here.
We had decided before Trouble was diagnosed we would bury her in our yard. That is where she likes to be, and we plan to plant a tree in her honor as well, and make sure it is stocked with lots of lizards. She loves chasing lizards!. I haven't yet checking into having her PTS at home, but will have to do so at some point. After all, she is 9 years old, and even without the big 'C', they don't live forever.

I put a new post, I guess it would be called, up asking for help as the forum host doesn't list any phone numbers....I am trying!! Thanks again for your ideas!!
I have two Great Danes, six & five. Sundance, the oldest has the cancer and that is about all I can write without a huge sobfest. That is understood here, I know. He is fine now, pain controlled and I am still at the point of just feeling sure I can will this away. That is the daily outlook, but my feet are firmly planted on the ground and that is why I am checking out future options.
Stay in touch....maybe I can figure out soon how to be more than a "guest"!!

My dog is huge and even though burial (surrounded by cats that love to run away!!!) would be possible with a small backhoe (!), I would like to have him with me until I can get him to a place he loves even more than back yards with cats....
I'm sure with a little perseverence, I can find what I want for him and I really, really appreciate the input and support of the folks on this site.

Hi Kirby
I'm a little to the south of you (SF Eastbay); the vets here offer a "private cremation" if you want the ashes back. That's what I've done in the past, and as hard as it is to let them take your baby, a box of ashes is easier to deal with than ..the other. One nice thing a vet did for me when I lost my whippet was to make a paw print in some ceramic stuff. That was really special.
Hope it's a long while before you really have to deal with this.

I'm glad to hear that service is offered....it seems somewhere up here it surely must be too. I will be asking my vet and the ceramic thing is very sweet....I have my own ideas in that area already, but I am hoping it is so long before I really have to deal with this that I forget what my ideas were!!
All you people on this site must be reallly tough...and obviously very kind.
Thanks, Kirby
There is also a process for making the ashes into a gemstone and jewellry... http://www.lifegem.com/
I'm not sure how I feel about this but it's another option. I went with a friend to my vet to help her old cat pass...she got the ashes back in a sweet little ceramic box.
I think you are being both realistic and brave, and I'm glad Sundance isn't in pain. What flavor (color) of Dane is he? Give his big old Dane head a smooch from me.
