I have been absent, as we have navigated our first month without our shining girl, K. We are feeling the first hints of healing, although we still shed many tears and have moments of furious rage that cancer stole our girl so early.
We recently visited the high mountains of Southwestern Colorado. I rode my mountain bike on trails that K and I navigated together in past years. We stayed in gorgeous campsites where K stayed with us in the past. I felt like her spirit was all around us. I ran across this Native American prayer, which expresses how I feel pretty well.
I give you this one thought to keep -
K, an 8 year old chocolate lab, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the radius and ulna on 12/23/11. She had stereotactic radiation to kill the bone tumors, and 3 rounds of carboplatin. On 3/16/12, lung mets were found. We tried several different kinds of chemotherapy to slow the lung mets but none worked. Finally, mets appeared at other sites, including her spine. She earned her angel wings on July 15, 2012. K changed my life, and I'll never forget her. Our/my journey is chronicled at romp-roll-rockies.blogspot.com.
I'm so sorry. One month later, the pain still feels so raw. Poems like the one you shared are more than beautiful, they really help remind folks that their beloved pups are still closeby.
I hope that making your beautiful video brought some comfort to you both. My heart goes out to you.
Here is the video.

A month is just a blink of an eye with the grief you are feeling......Thank you for sharing the video of your beautiful girl K.
She had the most gorgeous eyes, just amazing. My heart goes out to you today and in the days to come.

That was a beautiful video. K had a wonderful life with you. I agree that these sorts of projects help with our grieving. I know I've found it helpful.
The first month is the hardest but it is still not easy in the following months either.
Thank you for sharing the Native American prayer. It is very special and I will be keeping it nearby from now on.
My heart goes out to you. Thinking of you and sending lots of hugs your way.

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
The one month mark is hard.
What a lovely video! I love that song too. I felt the same way - I worked on finishing a scrapbook that my sister started for me. It was a good project - and really all I felt like doing in the days after we lost our girl.
I think it is good to have a remembance project to help you work through those hard first few days.
Thanks for sharing the Native American prayer. It's wonderful.
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Beautiful video- thanks for sharing.
One month is really so early in the grief process. I found the first year to be full of grief traps- those first holidays without, the birthday without- and your experience of going somewhere you went together but now without....
A project does help I think- to remember and honor. For me it was completing the 'Mag Tag', a very rough paint silouette of Maggie I had painted while Mag was still with me. It now hangs on my bedroom wall.
In the coming weeks and months the pain will dull a bit, and there will be more smiles. K will always be with you to watch over you and inspire you.
