My roomate's bull mastiff Max crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully in his sleep last night. He was my tripawd greyhound's best friend, even though he was considerably larger. It's just so heartbreaking, I found him this morning around 4 am laying in his usual spot. I had to be the one that called my roomate, who was spending the night at her family's home. Why did this have to happen?

I'm sorry about your furbaby's friend.  The death of a beloved pet is never easy, even if it is peaceful.  My husband and I have had a total of 5 pets during our marriage.  Over the years we have had to put down 3 of them.  Every time, I wished they would just pass peacefully in their sleep so we didn't have to play God and make that decision.  For that, I'm thankful your friend didn't have to face that decision.  I'm sorry she didn't get to say good-bye.  Hang in there.  Time is the only thing that will heal the pain.

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

Oh I'm so sorry. i know it's really hard. I wish there was an answer to "why". This will be hard for all of you. I hope you keep posting and allow yourself to grieve.

{{{{{hugs}}}}}} I can't imagine how upsetting that was for all of you, I'm so sorry. How old/young was he? Was he sick at all?  And how are you all doing now?

My heart goes out to all of you, I'm very very sorry.

I am so sorry. I cant imagine how upset you and your roommate both are. These dogs are most often our best friends and it really feels like you've lost one when they cross over rainbow bridge.

I know your friend didnt get to say goodbye, but personally i'd prefer them to go that way. At peace, instead of in a vets office.

I am so sorry for your loss and for your furbabys loss. i'm sure he is sad today as well.

He was only 4 years old. The confusing part is that he was just fine when I went to bed on Friday night. He was his usual happy self. Honestly, I don't it has really gotten to any of us yet. I feel for my roommate, when she comes home tonight and realizes how quiet this house is without him. I can't help but blame myself. I wonder if I could of done something to save him if I would of known it was coming. Thank you for all your support.

I am so sorry to hear this.  I hope everyone heals in time with this.  How's your pup handling it?  Did your pup express concern with the death?  Many (((HUGS))) sent your way and to the entire pack, humans included.

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry.  That must have been a terrible shock.  Our dogs are so good at hiding things from us.  It can be very difficult to know that anything is wrong.  You mustn't blame yourself.  My heart goes out to you.
