I just cannot believe that I'm writing this, here and now.
Our beloved Kona Kai passed last night.
She was doing so well, I'm mean really well during the weekend, then Monday, all of a sudden, she started acting really stressed and kept moving around. We thought that this was another extended round from the tramadol withdrawl (even though she'd been off the drug for a while, they can still have withdrawl symtoms for 2-3 months). And, you just have to let it run it's course.
Anyway, by Tueday, she was noticeably weak, where she had been very strong.
Then yesterday afternoon, it was like a switch was turned…I knew that it was something more, something bad.
We could tell that she was shutting down. Last night we went to our vet's and they were so kind and truly sorry and crushed.
She had a gentle send off and my baby is now running on all fours, chasing 'squeazels', patrolling and being her wonderful, devilish self.
The loss is so great. Not only to us, but her adopted pup brother and sister are absolutely lost. They are both born deaf and blind in one eye and have always relied on their Kona to tell them what to do and when……
Her kitty brother 11yrs, has always been her playmate and he's just sad.
I'm thankful that our girl has regained her all, but, we just miss her so.
I love you Kona. Always, my girl.
Kona turned 9yrs on April 16, 2010.
Kona was diagnosed Memorial Weekend 2010 with osteosarcoma.
Right rear leg amputated on June 4th. First chemo June 18th 2010
Second chemo July 9th, 2010 Third and final (yea !!!) chemo July 30th, 2010

We can't believe it either Denise, and we are so very sorry.
Kona Kai fought her battle with dignity, courage and adorable-ness. What a lucky girl to have had such a loving family by her side through it all. And as hard as this decision you just made was, always know that you did right by her.May she run free with our spirit Tripawd friends, and always be by your side.
We send our deepest condolences, and are thinking of you at this difficult time.

I am deeply saddened to read this. With weepy tears, I join you in saying goodbye to a warrior, a hero. Kona Kai will live in my heart forever, with the tripawds who have gone before her, and the ones that will follow.
May you find peace in the beautiful memories of this special girl.
RIP sweet Kona Kai. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

There just never seems to be enough time for those we love and there are no magic words to ease the feelings of grief at their loss.
I am so very very sorry. It may be of little comfort right now, but her spirit will always be with you.
Rest in peace, Kona Kai.

I am so sorry to hear about Kona Kai's passing. It just doesn't seem fair we have lost so many of our buddies this year, but the support this great family gives to everyone is so helpful when we do. Our thoughts are with you, Spirit Gus and Dan
My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010
What a terribly sad loss for your family. Kona sounds like the matriarch of your furry clan. That can be so hard on all of you. I am so sorry for your pain.

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
Oh I'm so very sad to read about Kona Kai. My heart goes out to you and I'm so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed reading about her and her great spirit and love for life. I imagine your family is suffering a great loss right now but hope in time your hearts will heal. Please take comfort in knowing that she's still with you and will always be with you forever.
My deepest condolences,
Kami
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Denise and Spirit Kona,
Words can not express how sorry we are to hear that Kona's journey has reached a conclusion, but we hope that you can accept our deepest sympathy at this time. It is so very hard when we loose one of our brave warriors. Know that you shared a great life and did everything possible to extend your time together and to give that time the highest quality of life possible. Know also, that you will never be totaly without Kona, for the gifts that she gave you will live with you forever.

Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Denise,
I am just so sorry and sad for you and your wonderful furry family. Kona was such a great girl and I can still remember the first day seeing her beautiful picture.
It's heartbreaking to lose her, even for us. Please don't forget we are here, not just today but whenever you need us.
My deepest condolences,
Comet's mom
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
We are so very sorry to hear this...especially with how sudden it was. Take solace in the fact that Kona didn't suffer and you were able to be there with her at the end.
Zack, King of Dogs, 1996 to 2010
Zack lived a full 14 years, even to the end.
The joy and memories he provided us will last a lifetime.
Surviving him is his sister, Izzy, a 12-year-old boxer mix quadpawd.
And the latest addition, Zula, an 11-month-old pit bull mix tripawd.
