Emma was three months post-op on August 6th.
On July 31st we had been back to the vet for follow-up x-rays. The cancer had spread to both lungs. To me, the spots looked pretty big, with some very small spots that the vet said were also cancer.
She just went downhill quickly since then. She had great difficulty getting around and would just look at me and cry. She still liked to be outside in the yard enjoying the sun and watching for cats, squirrels and rabbits. But once outside, she didn't want to get up again. She stopped eating except when I'd make "special" meals for her (like scrambled eggs with cheese) and she would go 24 hours or more without drinking water then she'd drink a whole bowl full. She would only go "potty" about once every 24 hours. To top it all off, after thinking about it for three years, I had wood flooring put in this past week and Emma couldn't walk on it - too slippery for her.
The vet and vet tech came to the house this afternoon, and Emma went peacefully, now she's no longer in pain. I miss her so much! From an eight-week old puppy to her tenth birthday this May, she has been my constant companion, my sounding board and my consolation.
Rest in peace, my Emma.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Rest in peace beautiful Emma. Sending you warm hugs and strength at this difficult time.

Diagnosed with Periarticular Hystiocystic Sarcoma Feb 14-13; Amputation March 18-13, and diagnosed with STS April-14. Tahoe touched so many people while visiting us, leaving a massive void in our lives. Always Missed, Never Forgotten!!
I am new to all of this, our Winston was just diagnosed with osteoscarcoma. We are devastated as a family and I am completely heart broken.
Emma's story was my first read and she has touched me. May you find comfort that she is whole, happy and healthy.
She will be waiting to greet you again.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14
oh my.. this story is all too familiar... my heart goes out to you, I know exactly how you feel... My Franklin had the same thing.. 4 1/2 months post op the cancer hit his lungs. I thought that cough might be just kennel cough... but the realist in me smacked me on the head and told me different. Before we even had xrays done, I knew it. Deep down I knew it.
It sucks.. it really does suck big time. We have been ripped off!! When we have their cancer taken away from them with their amputation, they are supposed to live a happy life till they go to the Bridge by their own choice dammit!!
Cancer sucks.
It may take away our loved ones, but it will never, EVER take away the love that we have in our hearts for our furbabies, nor their love for us.
*hugs*
Christine..... with Franklin in her heart ♥
Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012. Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013. Always in my heart, and always a guardian angel of my pack... You can follow his Tripawd Adventures, before and after, in my blog, Frank'n'Farter!
Jill, I'm so sorry to read this. We were out of town yesterday and just saw your sad news, our hearts ache for you.
Cancer is so unpredictable and mean, how we wish that she had more time to be with you. I know how hard it is to make that decision to set her free but please know that you did the most compassionate thing for your beautiful Emma. Now her spirit is free of aches and pains, free to spread youthful energy and surround your heart with love for all time. She is still with you, only in a different way.
If you would like to share any photos of her, or more about her long, amazing life with you, please do so. Talking and remembering the good times helps heal broken hearts.
Many, many hugs & condolences coming your way.
