Very nice sentiments Charley. And Athena will always be found in our hearts.

I just saw the beautiful, stunningy beautifulpicture that Jerry posted of Sweet Athena.........such a lovely and gentle soul.

Jess, I still shake my head in disbelief.

I kmow that Athena had the best rime being yor partner! I know Athena kows what the word "love" means because you and she defned it. Same is true for devotion.....same is true for dedication.

You surrounded Athena with love every second of every day. And you srrounded her with love when she needed it most. She was at peace because you were with her ad she new you would help her exit this lfe when it was tme. And she knew yoj would know when it was time.

Nothing can dim her light Jess! Nothing can touch her spirit! Athena found a place n our hearts from the first post. You both have inspired us. We all want more time, it's never enough..ever! But tme without quality means nothing. Athena had quality AND your infinite love As privileged as you felt to have her in your life, she felt just as privileged to have you in hers.

Athena kows you'll be sad. But she would wantyou to thinkof all the tousands and thousands of days of wnderful memories the two of you shared.. Jst for one quick few secds...for you and flr Athena...close your eyes and think of e of those meories now. When you cam home, how did she greet you? Or when she knew she was gong to get a treat, did her tail wag a certain way? It makes Athena hapoy when you think o the good times.

ATHENA WILL EVER BE FORGOTTEN! A life that well lived touches us forever! Jessica, we are still here foryou. YWe share your grief with you, we just can't lessen it for you...we can only be by your side.

Surro dingyo with Athena's eternal grace and brilliant light,

Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Run free, pretty lady. Our thoughts are with you, Jess.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Sometimes memories fall from my eyes and roll down my cheeks. And when we read these posts our hearts break with you and our cheeks are wet along side you. This journey sucks. I'm sure we sometimes wonder why we go through all this, why we put ourselves through this pain and grief...but then we remember all those nights of snuggles, all those head rubs, ear scratches, belly rubs, and wet nose kisses that we have been blessed with over the years. We will miss the doggy nose art on the sliding glass door, we will miss the sound of their hip hop through the house, the sound of them snoring and the feet twitching as they chase rabbits on all fours!!! We will miss that, but what we won't miss is the love we have for them because it will always... ALWAYS be in your heart. The memories will always bring comfort and eventually smiles when the tear ducts slow down.
She loved you to the last beat of her heart... And you will carry that till the last bear of yours.
I believe that... always.
Our hearts break with you. We know you know we understand and are here for you if you want to scream, vent , or cry with us.
Christine.....with Franklin in her heart <3

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012.  Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013.  Always in my heart, and always a guardian angel of my pack...   You can follow his Tripawd Adventures, before and after, in my blog, Frank'n'Farter!

Thank you everyone for the kind words and support. I am trying to take it all in. The house felt so empty today. I kept expecting to hear her hop down the hallway or to hear her bark outside in the yard.

Sunday night, she had started to decline so rapidly. Her belly was hard and swollen because she was swallowing air. She could only sit in one place for a few minutes at a time because she was so uncomfortable. I saw in her eyes how scared she was and she did not want to be left alone. She didn't sleep that night, and I only did for a few hours out of sheer exhaustion. When she tried to lay down, her mouth was open to breath. I knew, as I sat with her outside on Sunday about midnight, what I had to do the next day. I wanted to take her pain away, but I felt so helpless and all I could do is sit with her and have my hand on her and let her know that she was not alone. She stumbled a few times while she tried to walk. I think I forgot to mention that last Tuesday when she had her chest rads done, she had her back right leg looked at as well. She had started limping and holding up that leg, and I had a bad feeling that the cancer had gone there, and the bone wall indeed looked like it was deteriorating. In addition to learning about the lung mets, I knew I didn't have much time. Little did I know that six days later, I would be saying my goodbyes.

I was looking at pictures, and I just realized that this is how she looked as she lay peacefully and I held her head and kissed the top of her head as I talked to her and told her how I loved her and said my goodbyes to her. I can at least remember that she is not in pain in any longer.

Jess, you are so strong for returning and sharing the events of the last few hours with her. I know that can't be easy --  Athena must be giving you some of her amazing strength right now. Cancer is just so hard and horrible, I'm sorry that she (and you) had such a rough time.

That sweet little puppy and you created a bond that will last for all time. She might be an angel now, but her spirit will always be alive in you heart. May it surround you with love and comfort during this difficult time.
