I caught this on the news this a.m. - which was odd since I am usually still out w/Jasper at 6:15 a.m. or in the shower but somehow, I timed it and I heard this. I think Shelby guided me to it (missing her a ton this week with no signs to be seen).
I also felt it was timely ... there is no limit on grief and it was good to hear and read this.

In Los Angeles, Garth Kemp is our weather guy on the local station but he also does a TON for pet rescues... every Tuesday they have a pet that needs a home on the 'adopt of pet' segment and it is a really good adoption rate. He's rather a curmudgeon but I think he just prefers the company of animals (which honestly, most of the time, so do I).
Enjoy!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Thanks Alison! I'd say seeing this this morning IS DEFINITELY a message from Shelby!

Alison,
Such a special story and one that's not talked about much in mainstream media. I'm sitting here crying after watching the story...
I went to the site they mentioned (Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement). They have a lot of helpful info on the site. I haven't gone through all of it yet but I started crying again after reading the "Pet Heaven" tab. It looks to be a free service much like Tripawds. I just wanted to post the link so those that may be having a more difficult time with the grief will have easy access to it.

May you finally be healthy and running free at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my sweet boy!
Thank you for posting the link, Sahana... I hadn't had a chance to go to it yet. But yes, rarely something seen in mainstream media. I still feel so blessed that I was able to take a week off of work for bereavement as I know others are not so lucky. I truly believe it allowed me to fully grieve in an ugly way (the non-stop hysterical tears, the staring at her bed, the wall, the door, laying on the couch binge-watching Netflix, feeling the pain in the gut in the mornings but never putting on a happy face)... it was so awful.
But this ... this brings me comfort and I believe it to be true - whether you believe in heaven or not: I know Shelby is playing and yet she is waiting for me too.... we WILL be together again.
All Pets Go To Heaven
There is a very special place where beloved pets go after they die. This is only a temporary location. But there are trees and grass and lakes, and everything they love. Here they can play and eat and sleep, even better than they did, before they died. Now, there are no aches or worries or dangers of any kind to trouble or threaten them. The only joy missing is their beloved human companion, you.
All health is restored completely, and all injuries are healed. Dogs and cats play with each other like youngsters, and they do not have time to feel lonely for you. They miss you, and with the special wisdom that animals have, they trust that this condition will get better. And they confidently wait as they frolic.
A wonderful day will come for each of them, when in the middle of playing they will suddenly feel something is different. And all their senses will be at the height of excitement and exuberance. They will sniff the air and look off in the distance where they recognize that dearly loved special presence. Then they will call out in elation, and with eyes shining and tail going wild, tear off at a full gallop, almost flying over the green grass.
Your expected arrival has been sensed, and now there is nothing that can keep the two of you apart, ever again. As you run toward each other the tears flow from your eyes. Your pet leaps into your arms, and you cling together in jubilant reunion. The joyous kisses are all over your face, and you kiss back, just as ecstatically. Your hands so lovingly caress once more the beloved fur, the head and neck and body you knew so well. And you look into each other’s loving eyes, and all those old, wonderful shared feelings are back, again.
And then something will call the both of you on, to a different field of warmth and nurture, where all the love you knew now comes to fruition. With your pet, you leave that special waiting area, walk into the main part of heaven, and begin a new existence there, together.
If you accept that pets can love us as much as we do them, then the logic is clear and cannot be denied. If you believe that there is a heaven for people, then they must be there, waiting for us, when we cross over. Heaven is love, and pets always share that with us.

Thanks for sharing this Alison, I truly love these stories from those you would never think would bare their soul in the name of a beloved pet. I always believe the true character of a human, is defined by how they love and care for children, the elderly, and animals......I am also one that definitely prefers being with my pets than being with most people. I also understand your tough time right now.....this month is going to be an extremely tough one for me as well.
Sahana, thank you as well for your posting this link......I don't think the grief ever really goes away, it just gets easier to get out of bed in the mornings as time goes by......especially when having that new pup in your life to care for.....And I do believe all pets go to heaven.....
Much Love,

Love the poem! I Think I am going to print it and put it with the Rainbow Bridge one that I got for Christmas. I always say I want to go to the animal part of Heaven when I go. Thanks for posting this Alison. I was finally able to watch the video, I just had to load it a few times.
