I have been dreading posting this last message - but I felt that I must let anyone who has followed Max's story know.
On Monday we had to say goodbye to our beautiful boy. His back legs finally gave out and he was no longer able to get around on his own. I know that everyone on this site will fully understand my feelings. Max was simply the best dog I have ever known. He was my best friend and fiercely loyal to the end. His spirit was so strong - he was such a personality and a very brave dog. Everyone who knew Max has been deeply affected - testament to the kind of dog he was. There is such a void now that he has gone. I was glad that I had the strength to make that final call - I had worried that I wouldn't be able to do this as he is such a large part of my life and I love him so very much but I couldn't see him suffer and didn't want to see Max fade away or be in pain.
Thank you again for everyone's kind help on this site. It seems a very long time ago that we faced the agonising decision and I am so grateful that we had those extra years with Max - he still had a great quality of life on three legs and never lost his zest for life and spirit of fun.
I hope Max's story gives some hope and encouragement to others.
Max I love you more than words can ever say and I miss you.

So sorry to hear about Max. I didn't know his story, as we only joined Tripawds two months ago, but I know how much losing such a good friend hurts, and I know how hard that final decision is. My most heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.
Best wishes,
Micki and Rio

My heart goes out to you, but please know that you did the right thing. The best gift we can give is to not let them suffer. In some respects it's a very hard decision, but when you dig deep inside you know it's the right thing to do... and you did it. Hang in there as best you can. You will never forget your friend, nor should you, but the raw edge will lessen with time and then you can enjoy the wonderful memories that you have of him.
