I just wanted to let everyone know that we are still here lurking in the background. Since Jersey May's passing in Sept. it has been very hard on us. I am trying to keep Mr. Red's spirits up. I have not posted much since it will make a tear fall (like now). Mr. Red and I want to thank everyone again for all your kindness. I am planning a tattoo in memory of Jersey May and will post the art when decided.
Angel Jersey May, Mr.Red and Jon too
My Sweet Jersey May. Lost her back left leg in 2001 at 1 year old. diagnosed with osteosarcoma in the remaining right rear leg May 2010 Left our world September 2010.
We miss you Pea Pie
I'm glad to know that you are still here. Since losing Tai two weeks ago I too have found it hard to come back on here, BUT there are so many other special people that need a helpful word or a supportive comment I just had to fight back the tears and log on. Tai and Jersey May would want us to try to help all of the other Tripawd pawrents out there. In the words of Spirit Jerry we have to "keep on keeping on".
A tattoo is a fabulous idea!!! What a great tribute to a great dog. I might have to copy that.
Take care and hopefully Mr.Red perks up soon. Good to see you back

Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.
Thanks for the pictures Admin!! I'm booking an appointment right away for my new (and only) tat! I can't wait.
Angel Tai would highly approve and give three paws up.

Thanks Laura, you are right, they would want us on to try to help others. This will be my first ink also. It will make me feel good to have a symbol of them with me all the time. I love the paw tattoos admin. they are cute. I afraid what I want wont be that simple. Nothing I do is simple unfortunately

Jon,
It's good to hear from you. Its been just over 5 months for me since I let Maggie go. I can tell you it does get better, and there are now more smiles than tears. But sometimes....
I had Mag's little sister Tani to deal with when Mag left us. Tani is not a very social dog, and does not really like other dogs, but she had never been an only dog and really missed having a companion. I knew when Mag was diagnosed with her second cancer that I would have to get a buddy for Tani, so 5 weeks after Mag crossed I adopted a 4 year old rescue pug I renamed Obie.
I think it was a good idea overall- it has helped Tani. But sometimes I think it makes me miss Maggie more.
I am curious to see what design you come up with for a tat. I usually don't do anything simple either.

Hi Jon,
It's great to hear from you. Since losing Sadie, I don't post as often as before. Some topics are really hard for me to read, much less comment on. Especially about deciding when it's time to say goodbye, or about tripawds that are having major setbacks. I guess the wounds are still pretty raw. I adopted a tripawd, Ranger who's amputation is the result of being hit by a car. He's a beautiful boy and makes me smile every day. I was recently thinking about another tattoo, I just can't decide exactly what I want. The paw prints are pretty neat. I got Sadie's ashes the other day and they put her paw print on a card and also an impression in a small piece of plaster. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the artwork.
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Jon,
Very nice to hear from you! It's gets easier but it sure seems to take forever! My Rugby is always still brought up and it's been 1 year and 4 months.
It's especially hard when you have another dog that loses their companion, too. Comet was lost and so sad. We immediately got another puppy. He was so different than Rugby in looks! Rugby was a big black shepherd mix and now we a 22lbs terrier mix. I can't believe how much Rocket, my new guy acts like Rugby! He's a comedian, just like Rugby was. He's just a straight faced comedian whereas Rugby laughed all the time! And he loves Comet, just like Rugby did. And trust me, Comet is not easy to love! And he's a mama's baby, too! The only difference now is I can hold him like a baby. It took me a long time to get to know Rocket because my heart wanted Rugby but now I just adore this little guy so much.
I still miss Rugby a lot. But yes, it gets easier. I'm just glad my world is filled with a lot of love from another boy dog.
I hope you stick around!
Comet's mom
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Jon, we're glad to know that you found the strength to check in. Just remember that there is no set timeline for how long you will take before you can smile instead of cry when thinking of Jersey May. Everyone is different when they go through this, and don't let anyone tell you that your grief is not real.
We totally understand why you and others have a hard time visiting here once your Tripawd leaves this earth, but we're just honored to know that you still feel like a part of this community in some way or another. We are here when you're ready, especially to show off the new tat.
Hugs to you and Mr. Red.

I am glad you have checked in too. When Sammy and I came here, within a short time you had lost Jersey May. Before that loss you had been so helpful in keeping me calm and shining a light along the path, so I could see the forest through the trees. I want to thank you for that.
I love the tatoo idea. I also am going to do that. My husband always calls Sammy "John Deere" because of a collar I had for him. I decided I am going to do one in "John Deere" green and put it on either the top or the bottom of my right foot. I want to get Sammys exact footprint and shrink it. I am also going to put a dash underneath it. Because it isn't the beginning or the end that matters, what really matters is the life we have lived together inbetween.
I hope you keep coming back and I look forward to seeing the new artwork too!

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
jon, it's good to hear from you, we've thought of you often these past months. every night when gayle gets her K9 immunity pills, we say 'thank you jersey may' for helping her stay healthy. the wrist 'tat' in the picture is mine. gayle's tumor was in her right wrist, so that's where i got my ring of paws. there's another picture in gayle's blog i think... our tattoo artist (like having a hairdresser or a dentist...bizzarre...) is amazingly good at photographic images - don was tempted to get one of gayle on his shoulder...but hasn't pulled the trigger on that yet. whatever you get will be a tribute to a wonderful 'sister'. hope you don't stay a stranger, and remember that love never ends.
charon & gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.

Hey Jon, Great to hear from you. I've been thinking of you guys (along with everyone else who has lost a pup recently). Today marks 5 months since we lost Skyler. The loss is still very painful, but it's not as raw. I think it's a great idea to get a tatoo in memeory of Jersey May! Can't wait to see what you come up with...hang in there...sending you some golden hugs

I totally understand how you feel. The first doggie i saw hanging their head out the car window made me cry and cry. I still miss my girl Shelli very much (its been a very long 8 weeks without her). Its nice to come into this forum and share feelings, its comforting to know you are not alone.
The quest for world domination continues on three legs. Comply minions!
