Thank you everyone for your support and kindness. Last night Winston was in pain even after the max dose of pain pills , panting and just wanted to lay near me in bed. He gave me the "look" last night that said he was done with this fight. It's very true that they will let you know. This morning he did not get up to eat or eat when I put his food in front of him. I took him to the vet this morning and he laid his head in my lap and said I goodbye. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do but he was ready and so was I. Now I am just dealing with the overwhelming sadness and grief. The house feels empty. My heart is empty.
Oh, I'm so sorry you didn't get more time with him. But there is no amount of time that would be "enough."
Many of us have very recently been right where you are now. It's so hard, so many reminders in the house, and you have to get used to the 'new normal' of the house being quiet. It's hard, but you will eventually remember him with more smiles than tears.
Sending healing thoughts and hope you are at peace in knowing that it was time and also knowing that Winston gained his wings while surrounded by love.
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
((hugs))
I know just how you are feeling. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Jac and Angel Spencer. Spencer was 5.25 years old. He fought a grade 3 fibrosarcoma, started on his shoulder. Left front leg amputated in August 2011. 15 weeks of chemo finished 12/22/11 (mytox and adria). Lung mets found on x-rays 12/28/11. Started carboplatin 1/6/12. Went to Heaven on 2/27/12. I miss him like crazy every day. See his blog here: http://spencer.tripawds.com/
Oh, I'm so sorry Winston's time had come. It really is the hardest time that we have with our kids but they know they are so loved.
Sending many hugs

We are so, so sorry. There never is enough time with or without amputation.
You did the honorable thing, as hard as it was. Better to remember him as you always have, rather than spend his last days in pain.
Remember that his spirit will always, always be by your side.

I'm sorry today came so soon for Winston. I know how empty everything seems when you come home without your best friend. Give yourself as long as you need to mourn your boy- then you will find one day that the smiles out number the tears.
He lives on in your heart and so will always be by your side.

I'm just so very sorry. Time is so precious.
As incredibly hard as today was for you, you know that Winston is smiling down on you saying how happy he is. He's running and playing just like a puppy!
You gave him a wonderful life so full of love. He knew it and he knew it to the end. Keep those thoughts close as you grieve this heartbreaking loss. May you find peace and comfort in knowing how much he loved you.
Sending you strength to get through the dark days ahead.

Lisa
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...
