Patricia ~
I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved warrior!

Donna, Glenn & Murphy

Like everyone else, Patricia, I am so sorry.
I remember when you first arrived here and how anxious you were about Atlas's size. I seem to remember that a vet had been very discouraging because of the Wobblers and his size. I'm so glad that you took the leap of faith and gave Atlas two more glorious years. If you could have asked him, he would have told you that he was thrilled to be here those extra 26 months.
Run fast and free, Atlas. Use all four of those wonderfully long legs and cut loose.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Patricia,
I am so sorry for your loss of your sweet Mighty Atlas...
He was a gently giant if there ever was one and he will be deeply missed by us all. He was a true warrior fighting his cancer and living his life on his terms for 2+ years. That is a true inspiration and beacon of hope for others.
We all understand the grief and the hurt in your heart. We're here for you to lend support if you need a shoulder or want to vent.
Sending you a warm hug

May you finally be healthy and running free at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my sweet boy!
Patricia:
so sorry for your loss. Atlas and you were great warriors in this journey against this nasty disease, and were blessed with 26 extra months. It is really heartbreaking to see them win one battle and then succumb to another, but it has been happening in this forum lately. For one part, it means that the different "protocols" of traditional and holistic methods are being able to give our pups the extra time we all want them to have, with quality of life. For giant breeds we know the road is harder, but you guys managed to show that it is posslble. RIP Atlas ! you will always be one of the legends in this community and your journey an inspiration.
hugs from Daniela & Johnnie
Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet. Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues. Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle. October 17: started having seizures. Taking fenobarbital for seizures. April 18: started prednisone.
I am so so sorry Patricia. The is heartbreaking. Mighty Atlas had a special place in my heart. He was so brave and has and will continue to inspire giant breed owners that come across his story here on Tripawds.
I know his spirit will be with you now, trying to tell you that he is ok, that he is not in pain, and that he knows how much you love him.
He was an amazing, mighty, giant boy with an amazing loving family.
Thinking of you and sending you and your family love.

Patricia and pack.... I am so sorry to read this.. and apologse for being so late in my reply as I was overseas on vacation.....
Mighty Atlas.... what a HERO!!!!! Still is!! He was magnificient!!! Still is!! A legend.. still is!! and a true blessing to anyone reading his story if they had any doubts about a big dogger having an amputation.. he set the story straight!! He proved those vets that said he couldn't cope.. and he did cope.. for TWO YEARS!!!!! woot woot! That is a celebration!!
Damn wobblers disease.. he had that all along... BUT HE KICKED CANCERS ASS!!! And because he kicked that arse of cancer's, you both were blessed with creating more memories, adding more doggie pawprints to your soul... and really most importantly... more time together... what we would all give to have more time together, and you had it!! and that was fantastic... FAN FREAKING TASTIC!!
He knew how much he was loved by all... how could he not with a heart as big as his. I loved watching his video when he was running around the yard by the fence... He was saying.. look at me.. I done it!!
But.... it hurts.. and it hurts like you know what.... we know that.. we understand... and we can feel your pain. Those of us whose furbabies are frollicking at the bridge.... know exectly how you feel. Those that aren't.. can only imagine...
I'm so glad he was surrounded by his pack... he was surrounded by love... and has become MIGHTY ATLAS at the bridge... strong.. fast.. and gentle... he's there to help all the others that will make that journey and help them settle in.... and when your time comes.. many, many years from now, and he sees you.. be prepared to get knocked on your arse!!
hugs
Christine....with Franklin in her heart♥
Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012. Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013. Always in my heart, and always a guardian angel of my pack... You can follow his Tripawd Adventures, before and after, in my blog, Frank'n'Farter!
I have been a bit absent from Tripawds lately, and when I came back on tonight, I saw the very sad news about Atlas. I'm so sorry your strong, brave boy has gone on. Atlas was Mighty, indeed. Thank you for sharing him with us. Atlas inspired so many, who never even met him. And his story will continue to inspire those who come to Tripawds seeking advice and reassurance.
It has taken me a while to come back and write. It was very cowardly in my part....I just wanted to bury my head in the sand and act like it wasn't real. But what a disservice to the MIGHTY ATLAS!!!
Atlas is a REAL HERO! A REAL VICTORIOUS WARRIOR!! A REAL ROCK STAR! A REAL SURVIVOR!! A REAL INSPIRATION!!! A REAL FRIEND TO US ALL! A REAL BEACON OF HOPE!!
That Atlas is a very special soul. And such a handsome boy with movie star good looks too! He has it all, that's for sure!
But most of all, Atlas was loved...and gave love...with every beat of his heart. He touched lives Patricia! His presence on this earth made a difference! Atlas TRULY lived a life of meaning! He showed everyone NOTHING is impossible on this hourney! He believed it and his humans believed it!
He got THE best bonus time with you, your husband and Sophie any dog could ever want! And he LOVED his acupuncture sessions! Whenever I recommend acupuncture, I always think of how they made such a difference for Atlas and how it thoroughly enjoyed them!
Atlas is a true legend around here! He will be held up as a Beacon of Hope when others are told there is no hope! He will be such an inspiration for all, but especially big dogs!! We will all carry on THE LEGACY OF THE MIGHTY ATLAS!!! He will NEVER be forgotten here...EVER!! Thank you for the privilege of sharing this journey with us. Come back when you can and share more...with pictures!
TWO HEARTS BEAT AS ONE! Hold onto that, okay? And I tried to post the link to that lovely portrait but was u able. I would LOVE to see it again...we all would...if you are up to reposting it.
Sending all the love in the world
Sally and My Eternal Light Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Sally how on earth could you ever think you are a coward. Not at all, ever. It's understandable that sometimes the best, most heartfelt words take time to come up through your consciousness. You always have soothing ones to offer. Thank you.
