Amanda,
I am so very sorry you are dealing with this loss, especially so soon. This was beautifully written and it is clear how much you loved Angas and Shelby. They were obviously very lucky to have parents who cared so much. We lost Zeus' brother two years ago - they were littermates that we rescued from a shelter and they had never been apart. I also believe that Merlin went ahead and will be waiting on Zeus when his time comes. Prayers for peace and strength to your family!
Lisa
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
Oh Amanda, I'm so very sorry. I can only imagine how quiet the house is now. As Lisa said, you wrote a beautiful tribute to your companions. You loved them so very much. I wish you peace and healing in the months to come.

Oh, Amanda, so much loss in such a short period of time. I can only imagine how much your heart is breaking right now. I know your beautiful pup's spirits will be with you forever, and in time the pain from the loss will heal. Sending you a hug right now...

Amanda, my heart is heavy. I'm so sorry to hear about Shelby. Although 12 + years is a nice long life it never quite feels like enough.
Laura, Kali and Angel Tai
Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.
Oh, Amanda, I am so sorry you lost Shelby right on the heels of Angas-- almost too much to handle. I am in tears reading your post-- how she comforted you and then left to be with her brother. I am so glad she went quickly and peacefully. I do smile to think of their reunion, but I know the emptiness they leave behind.
Thinking of you and sending you hugs,
Catherine
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
Aww. So sorry to hear about Angus. I know how hard it is right now and it will be for a while. I lost my Valentina Feb 3rd and I could never imagine feeling better. But I do now. Sometimes I feel guilty about feeling better but I know that Valentina would want me to be happy. I have started to think of the wonderful memories more and more now instead of focusing on the horribleness of her death. So happy that you and Angus had such a wonderful life together and his memories will always reflect that. Prayers going out for you and your family.

So sorry to hear about Shelby - and so soon after Angus. I hope they are having a great time together at the bridge.
Thinking of you and sending wishes that they'll send you a little sign that they are together and safe,
Jackie & Angel Abby & Rita
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Our hearts go out to you, we are so sorry to hear about Shelby. I know you will miss her dearly, that's a long time to have a canine pack member. What a lucky girl she was to have such a good life with you all, and then to say goodbye under such peaceful circumstances.
I love the thought that at least she is young again and running around with Angas.
Many, many condolences coming your way.

Hello Everyone,
I want to let you all know some happy news, we could all do with some happy news. We have a new collie in our family, his name is Winston and he will be turning one in the next couple of weeks. The weeks and months after losing Angas and Shelby were painful and emotional. The silence of the house was so loud. But you eventually heal, and find a place in your heart for another, it takes time but you do mend, but you never forget. So after what felt like forever we decided it was time to give our love to another puppy. We talk about Shelby and Angas all the time and Winston does some behaviours that remind us of them, and we joke with him asking him did he get a memo from Shelby or Angas how to do that. We love him so much and he has been excellent therapy for our whole family. He has opened a new chapter in our lives and because of him and wanting to learn more about dogs and how they think I have gone back to studying dog behaviour and training, and are now involved as an instructor at Winstons dog school, and i am loving it. I learnt so much from caring for Angas and Shelby that I wanted to know even more and I want to teach others how to do the right thing for their dogs and have them develop trust, love and that powerful bond that you can have with your dog. Winston is such a gentle soul and we love him so much and to be able to hug a collie again, makes you feel so good inside.
My thoughts and heart go out to all of you who are caring and worrying about your dogs, they teach us so much about love, life and caring. Just treasure your precious moments with them, because these are your memories.
Sincerely
Amanda and Winston
This makes me cry. It makes me cry as much as when I've read these Coping posts. I'm so happy for you! The silence they leave behind is deafening. So true.
I'm thrilled to hear you've healed enough to let another lucky puppy share your lives. It sounds like Angas and Shelby taught you many stellar life qualities and have given you a new passion in life (or at least a new way to express it). Congrats. I'm just over the top HAPPY for you and HOPEFUL for little Winston.

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Welcome Winston! You are truly guided vy two great souls watchingover you and making sure you do things right!

(((((((hugs)))))))))
Saly and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Amanda, thank you for coming back to let us know about Winston, congratulations!
It's wonderful to hear about how you've brought a new pack member into your lives and how your hearts have opened up to experience new joys and adventures together! For many who are grieving recent losses, it's beautiful to read reassurance that yes, this can happen again.
Isn't it great that with each new dog who comes into your life, you learn new things that make your pack's experience even better than before? Kudos to you for continuing to expand your knowledge about connecting with dogs.
We would love to see photos!

Such good news, Amanda! Definitely need to see pictures.
After adopting a senior collie and having her company for 5 years, I am rather partial to them. I cannot imagine a collie puppy, to be honest. They must be like little dandelion fluff balls! And I guess they try to get away with a lot because everyone knows they are smart yet sensitive. "Don't scold me or I'll melt away!" I'll bet Winston has you wrapped around his little paws.
Thanks for updating. So glad to hear your heart is healing and that Winston is helping.
