Today we said goodbye and goodnight to our beautiful boy. He was a fighter to the end. Over the last few days his breathing had deteriorated and he had started to appear confused and panicked at times. It was the toughest decision of my life and the hardest thing I have ever done. Because of his HO the vet couldn't inject him into his paw like they usually do, he had to inject the drugs into his chest, to avoid any suffering he was sedated first. He was wagging his tail to the end. I will always love you Winston and I will never forget you. Sleep tight my beautiful boy.
I also want to say thank you to everyone here who supported me through some of the toughest times in my life, particularly Jackie for her support with the HO.

Winston started limping in Feb 11, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right front paw in March 11, amputation April 11. Six rounds of carboplatin. Diagnosed with HO and lung mets September 11.We sadly said goodbye on 24 May 12, sleep tight Winston dog xx
I'm so sorry you came to the end of your journey with Winston- he was so young! He was a survivor, making almost 14 months since his amputation. I know it is very dark right now, but I hope the memories of better days help bring you some peace in the coming days and weeks.
Winston will always be in your heart, and so is always by your side.

I'm so terribly sorry to hear about Winston. It seems so unfair. Winston was such a beautiful spirit. Our hearts go out to you during this very sad, sad day.
May you find peace and comfort in knowing that he is frolicking happily without pain. And may you look back with a smile knowing he touched your soul in a wonderful way.
My deepest condolences to you and your family.

She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Our thoughts are with you- rest in peace Winston.

So sorry about Winston's passing. Thanks to Karen's link, I read of your magnificent warrior Winston and his journey with this awful disease. To hear he was wagging his tail while surrrounded by your love at the end, touched my heart. My condolences to Winston's Pack during this most difficult time.
Spirit Shadow's Pack
Oh Rachel, our heart goes out to you, we are deeply sorry to hear this sad news.
Winston fought so courageously, we only wish he had more time. Please know you did right by your boy by setting him free so that he may run without pain, on all fours in eternity. May his spirit light the way for all of us.
Thank you for taking the time to share his story here so that others will find comfort in knowing more about H.O. and what to expect.
Many, many hugs coming your way from across the pond, tonight and always. Don't be a stranger, we are here for you.

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
I am sad to hear about Winston's passing. He is being surrounded by all the dogs who have gone on before now and is whole. May you be comforted by your memories of him and you will be in our thoughts for sure.
