At 5 pm today, I lost my baby Dasha. Due to cancer that was inoperable that caused her leg to go lame and she started having seizures. I released her of her pain like I promised to. Our journey the last 2 months were even more special to us. Even in the end she still showed love. Now she is whole again and we are broken. Jim
And we are broken for you. Bless you for being strong enough to release Dasha from her pain.
Run free, sweet Dasha at Rainbow Bridge.

Jim,
My sincerest condolences to you and your family. You made one of the hardest decisions one has to face, but take solace in knowing you did the right thing by releasing her from her pain and suffering. She is now free and whole again, and her memory and spirit will live on in everybody that she touched. My thoughts are with you and Dasha ...

I'm so sorry Jim...you said something so true...so simply - that she is whole again, but "we" are broken. My heart just breaks for you. Know that your last act with her was one of love and devotion...and she knows that. The painful consequences of loving a fur kid so much, but in the end...it's all worth it.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you ~
Grieve gently

Thanks everyone, If I had to do it over again, the answer is Yes!! The love and time I had with her was well worth it. My journey has ended with her in body but whats in my memory and heart will last until we meet again. It is truly ashame both man and animal has to suffer with this terrible disease. I still have my 7 year old rottie that Dasha taught so well, so in a way she is still here. I miss her so much, just wish I had the chance to hold her one last time. We will be getting her ashes back, I didn't want them doing anything to her so we decided on private cremation. My wife and I are so glad we did this. She will stay on our mantle watching over us. After she passed I read this prayer that a good friend sent me:
A Parting Prayer
Dear Lord, please open your gates
and call St. Francis
to come escort this beloved companion
across the Rainbow Bridge.
Assign my DASHA to a place of honor,
for she has been a faithful servant
and has always done her best to please me.
Bless the hands that send her to You,
for they are doing so in love and compassion,
freeing her from pain and suffering.
Grant me the strength not to dwell on my loss.
Help me remember the details of her life
with the love she has shown me.
And grant me the courage to honor her
by sharing those memories with others.
Let her remember me as well
and let her know that I will always love her.
And when it's my time to pass over into your paradise,
please allow her to accompany those
who will bring me home.
Thank You, Lord,
for the gift of her companionship
and for the time we've had together.
And thank You, Lord,
for granting me the strength
to give her to You now.
Amen.
Thank you for sharing the beautiful prayer. I am so sad to hear of your loss of Dasha. She was lucky to have loving pawrents and you were blessed to have a faithful and loyal companion. We are sending you our love and prayers as you mourn the loss and celebrate her life.
I agree with you, I would not give up one day with my girl.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the support you have shown. Are family will get thru this terrible time in our lives, our hearts will mend, but our memories will last a lifetime. I also wanted to say that one day I will give another animal a chance at love. Dasha taught me so well!!! For that I'll always be grateful.
So sorry about Dasha, Jim. My heart aches for you. That was a wonderful prayer.
