Carina,

Thank you so much for sharing all this. It was so wonderful to be able to learn more about Cooper, his life, and accomplishments. Sharing all the stories really helps one work through the grief. Lately I have been spending a lot of time on a scrapbook for Nova, documenting her Tripawd journey, and gathering together old puppy photos and memories of her life. I keep having to add pages to the scrapbook (which is a GOOD thing), but it's one of those things that I will never know when it will be the "last" page. Cooper's passing, and the passing of Buster and Blue, has really affected me this week. Nova's having some rough issues this week with her glaucoma that have got me worried. This morning she was so disoriented she was running into things, and I can't figure out why. Opthomologist is not in til noon, so I wait... you know how it is. And then there's always a chance it's not related to the eye at all... ARGH.

Anyway, thanks for sharing this tribute to your boy. It was a pleasure to read.

...ramble all you want - we love to hear about all our fur friends - earthbound and heaven occupied. I loved what you wrote about Cooper - what an amazing soul - thank you for posting it here.

I'm so sad about your loss...Buster and Dasha and Blue too...it's been a ruff week here in our tripawd family. I hope you find some comfort knowing that we all care so much...

Sending you lots of love and prayers during this painful time...we wish you peace.

Love

Carina, what a wonderful story about Cooper. Humping the shovel! Breaking the bridge! We love it! He was a really lucky boy who got to experience a life well lived. We should all be so fortunate. We also appreciated learning more about him.

It's interesting you mentioned how he didn't like to sleep on the bed, but by the door. See, Jerry never liked to sleep on the bed either. We would BEG him to jump up, and he might stay a little while, but not all night. He would always be down at the foot of the bed. Could that be a shepherd trait or something? Never thought about behavior like that as being something in dogs' genes. Hmmmm....

Thank you so much for sharing it with us. We subscribe to the Bone Cancer Dogs forum too but have been bad about catching up on the posts lately.

Many hugs,

Rene

Isn't that funny about the bed thing? Over the years, I've had a couple of friends who would stay at the house and take care of the critters when I need to go out of town. Both have told me Cooper would sleep on the bed with them all night.

My theory is twofold (and based on more than one Rottweiler.) One: Some dogs just have more of a sense of what is "right" and perhaps it had something to do with, when the alpha being in the household decides to claim a high-vaue space ie the bed, the correct place for the second in command is...well not in that same space. They are German dogs after all and rather sticklers about rules!

The other theory is the guardy thing. Four of the five Rottweilers I've owned over the last 23 years have chosen to sleep in or close to a doorway at night, between their people and outside. Even if they are clearly invited onto the bed, or there's a perfectly good dog bed right on the floor next to the bed.

I am betting it was the same deal with Jerry. He decided that was his rightful place, and perhaps a guardy thing too.

What it says that my other Rottweiler Daphne and my little spotted dog Fiona sleep on the bed with me every night, all night, I'm not sure. 🙂

That is too funny about the dogsitters!

Jerry was definitely a stickler about rules, a very regimented little guy when it came to the basics. Maybe he determined that Jim, the alpha dog, had claimed the rightful spot on the bed? Interesting....

I love your dog's names by the way. Too cute.
