Bittersweet, isn't it?  Prayers are with you.

We're glad to hear Comet is back where she belongs.  So far we have Chico, Oscar and T.J. on their special shelf in our bedroom and over time others will join them.  When us two legged types also shuffle off this mortal coil  everyone goes in the one hole together and then they'll plant an oak tree on us.  No stones and no walls, we'll just become part of a forest all mixed together.  When people are discussing funerally type things and I tell them that it becomes very easy to tell the doggy types from the non doggy types.  I shall be sure to give Io and Cobweb a biccie in honour of Comet tonight

Mitch - you are talking about the same kind of funeral that I want.. I wish I had had my other 2 special  furkids cremated after they left ... I have one of my special furkids on the shelf and thats where Coop will end up eventually ( hopefully not for a long time ) and I would like us all to be mixed together when I leave too.. I think the doggy types have it together..

Ge'Lena,

I'm glad Comet is with you again. I know that feeling of things not being right until everyone is home, where they are loved, hardware and all!

Last month when I brought Samantha home & carefully placed her ashes in the urn I had designed for her so long ago, I didn't want to throw away the bag they were in, because it was still coated with her remains....well that was handled by the only two beings she disliked in her life...Bug, my Tripawd cat & his partner in crime, Denali, who has cerebellar hypoplasia, he's quite high functioning, but uncoordinated nonetheless. They stuck their heads & paws in the bag, then wrestled until their glossy black coats were sprinkled with Samantha. I like to think some of her benevolence was magically instilled in them, but I've seen no evidence yet...

Once again I find out that I am not a weirdo (well, at least not in this way... the rest is up for debate) - I, too, have my beloved cat, Milly, and both Sophie (my Tripawd) and her older brother Keaton (both Goldies), and my much loved terrier, George, in their urns waiting for that perfect time and place to spread their ashes. I love the idea of all our ashes going into a hole and planting a tree on top. Can't think of a much better thing than that. Thanks for that idea.

I'm glad you are finding some comfort having Comet back home, Ge'Lena. I would have been a bit freaked about the hardware, too !

"Going Dog" def: living every day in the moment

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."

I was shocked to hear about Comet!  But…I'm not surprised that she's back at home and things are once again as they should be 🙂  Jack lives on top of our curio cabinet.  He has a pretty good view of things and even gets to wear his Tripawds bandana every now and then (as seen in the loverly photo on the previous page, lol).  He even came to school with me once to assist me with a presentation on preparing for the loss of a pet.  See, our dogs are little helpers even when they are not in standard doggy form!  It is totally normal to dress them up and take them with you (right?).  Wishing the best for you and your family!!!

p.s.  I just got a tribute tattoo and posted a topic with a picture, but it isn't showing up.  oh well!  i'll try again another time.

So glad to hear Comet is back home where she rightfully belongs.  I can't wait until we can pick Dakota up this weekend.  Your comment about the plate made me smile - the lady at the crematorium made a huge point in telling me Dakota would be the only one inside and that I could be "assured" the cremains we will receive are his.  As if they would be some other random pet?!

Take comfort in knowing Comet is back home with you and her spirit surrounds you.

Iam tasked in my niece's will to mix her ashes with the ashes of all of her animals, should she die before me...Jeez, I hope not.  But, Tracy has had several dogs, a couple of rats, numerous cats, a budgy or two and has the ashes of all.  I have a big family and the first few people she asked if they would carry out this wish for her declined.  One of my sisters told her, "That sounds like a job for Aunt Nancy."  I found nothing strange in the request at all.  Makes me wonder...are we weird or are they?  way-confused

Anyway, Good on you and George, Ge'.  Good to have Comet's juju back home.  Watch out monkeybutt!

Isn't it amazing how much a little bag of ashes can set the world right after one of our pets crosses the Rainbow Bridge? Personally, I am out of sorts until my babies come home. Right now, I have three tiny urns lined up on my desk, each containing the ashes of a hedgehog I love dearly. After they die, I find I can't sleep properly until they are home. I kiss their urns every night, talk to them when I'm sad, and introduce each new animal to them. When I move, the urns never leave my hands. In my last move, I told my boyfriend: If you drop the computer, it can be replaced. If you break my dishes, I'll buy new ones. But don't you dare touch these urns. They will come with me in the truck and I will carry them up first and put them in a safe place. If these break, you will witness a nervous breakdown".
