Murphy had his 16th (and final) physical therapy session today. His doctor said that he is one of the patients who make everything they do worthwhile, and she gave him an A+! His balance, muscle development and his coordination have improved tremendously. Of course, his attitude has been his number one success factor. One of the ladies at the front desk says that he is just sooo enthusiastic.
Now we just have hurdle of Thursday's visit to the orthopedist and the x-ray of the hip. Once he clears that, Murphy will be allowed out in the back yard without a leash. It has been seven months since he's been out to potty by himself. Last Friday was his six month ampuversary, and today is four months since the hip reconstruction. I will be sure to post a video on the FB page when we are able to let him run free.
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Murphy, you And your pawparents are awe inspiring:-) Absolutely awe inspiring:-)
You have been through soooooo much. Your attitude is absolutely wonderful. The devotion and care you are receiving from our parents is not something everyone could do as well and as consistently as they. Of course, when you are as handsome as you , who wouldn't do everything possible to ensure your health and happiness:-)
Really look forward to the video.. Cannot imagine the job you and Murphy will be feeling during that NO leash, back yard pooping victory:-)
CONGRATULATIONS:-) Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
FREE AT LAST!!!
Murphy had his orthopedic surgeon checkup today and passed with flying colors. I'm in the process of downloading (or is it uploading?) a video to the Facebook page that shows him being let off the leash for the first time in seven months. A side note to this, though, is that he managed to sneak out the doggie door this morning. When Dad caught him and told him to get back in the house, he came right back in through the doggie door.

Congratulations Murphy! It's been a long, tough road but you've proven that even the seemingly impossible can be overcome with some enthusiasm and a pawsitive outlook. Injury to a remaining leg? No problem!
What a fantastic, joyous day for everyone. I know this was a lonnnnnng recovery but don't you think your pack is even stronger now because of it?
I saw the video of you on FB, you look so fantastic!!!

Thank you so much for all of your support. This group is pawsitively pawsome!
Murphy (along with the rest of the pack) will spend the next two weeks visiting family in California. The best part is they have a swimming pool! I'm quite certain we will have a hard time keeping him out of it.

Forgot to mention... We had a visit with our local vet today and while she was walking Murphy and me back out to the car, we went down the front steps of the office without even thinking about it. He had always used the wheelchair ramp there. One more milestone! We will work very slowly on going up the stairs, but I don't think it's going to take too long.

A big day for Murphy today...he went upstairs for the first time since October. He has been willing to go up two or three stairs, but stopped short of anything over that. Yesterday he went to a dog wash at the vet's office and went up the front steps there for the first time. They have a wide staircase of about a half dozen steps. Inside the office, he balked at the same number of stairs that were on a narrow staircase. We thought maybe he needed the visual of a wider staircase to make him feel comfortable. This morning, his Dad went upstairs to get something from the desk. Murphy just trooped up the stairs right next to him. Before Dad could even praise Murphy, he grabbed a toy and headed back downstairs (14 steps). He is also doing better at using the ramp to load into the car.

Wow! You know when you've gotten to the point where ordinary things are, well, ordinary again, that you're really on your way to life as you knew it before. Congratulations!
Although my mom has been too busy to write the story she wants to write about Murphy, in a way she is glad she hasn't yet because to read about his progress through the months in this discussion is a great story in itself. We really appreciate all of these updates, they are so inspawrational, as is Murphy himself!

Murphy-You and your pawrents are pawsome. I know this has been a long hard road but you made it!
You were/are an inspiration to me while Daisy is going thru her knee surgery/recovery. If Murphy could make it thru a hip replacement it makes Daisy's knee surgery look like a walk in the park.
