So Dexter made it through surgery today. He has to have the second part of the surgery tomorrow. (I didn't know there was two parts which is a little disconcerning) however, I just have to keep faith that he is ok. I do know that he is in a hospital that is open 24 hours so he has someone there with him always which is comforting. I will update you tomorrow as soon as I hear anything. As of right now he is scheduled to come back from NC on Thursday and should be able to come home with me that day.
Whew! That's terrific. It does sound like he's in a great facility, so try not to worry. (Uh huh, sure!). Keep us posted.

Well, that's good news. Too bad he has a second part, but at least he's half done now. Hopefully this will set him right and he'll have a wonderful life with you. You're certainly cementing some bonds, aren't you?

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Definitely, I have been seriously thinking that I shouldn't have kids. I have had such a hard time dealing with all this pain. I'm constantly worried about him and if he is okay or hurting. If he is happy or sad, if he is comfortable. Even before this surgery I just contantly worry about him, does he need food or water, or to go outside. Since he can't get up and do it himself. I have felt some crazy emotions that I have never felt before and I can only imagine if I feel this way about my dog, it would only be worse with a child. He has been through so much and it pains me that I can't just snap my fingers and make it all better.
He definitely has my heart and I just hope I get to have alot more wonderful time with him. 8 months just isn't enough.
Oh gosh! Don't ever doubt your ability to parent. The way you love, care for, and worry over Dexter is a good sign you'd be a good parent. Kids are stressful sometimes and of course you would worry, but it's not like a dog. A dog does everything it can to hide discomfort and kids don't have any trouble showing discomfort or displeasure...trust me. 🙂 you never have to wonder if they need something or if they're happy. You just can't compare them for so many reasons they can't possibly be listed here.
I'm so glad Dexter came through surgery well today! Such great news. That baby has so many people pulling for him all over the country. 🙂
That's terrific news he is out of surgery! And what a relief that he is at a 24 hour clinic!
Your thoughts are perfectly normal. I agree with with Roxy's mom - a dog can't talk so it's much harder because it's a guessing game. A dog doesn't quantify quality of life like humans. So they will endure more pain and suffering and remain stoic. But I understand what you are saying about kids and dogs. When they suffer pain or hurt, so does the parent.

She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Yay great news!!!
and yeah you cant really compare kids and dogs as the kids certainly let you know when they aren't happy and they generally do it VERY loudly. With a 'sick' dog you are constantly watching them, waiting and trying to guess how they are feeling cause they certainly wont let you know. But feeling their pain is the same but I have to admit its actually worse, with kids (jezz thats a good thought aint it 🙂 )
This is a hugely stressful time for you and if you ever need to rant or rave or anything then we are all here to listen. Dexter is such a special little guy and we are all hoping for more great news.

It is so wonderful to hear that Dexter made it through the first part of his surgery. I'll be praying that today's surgery goes just as well. Being able to bring him home on Thursday would just be great. I know that you are anxious to have him back home with you. You probably won't be able to because you are worrying about him but try to get some extra sleep before he comes home if you can. Thinking about you and Dexter all day.
So Dexter made it through the surgery today. The doctors said everything went well. He said that two of Dexter's vertebrae were meeting in a 90 degree angle, they removed those and used a cement to hold the area together which will reduce scar tissue. His prognosis is "guarded" but everyone is pulling for him to do well. He is on the road back home now with the vet. I can't wait to see him. The vet said he would call me either later tonight or in the morning. I will keep you all posted. Thank you for all your support. This has been a very trying time for me, but I close my eyes and I see Dexter running and playing like a normal Tripawd...his happy ending is coming I can feel it.
We see him running too. Never give up, he WILL run!!
What an amazing surgery for this pup. He's so lucky to have you for a pawrent!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
So many good things have happened, and I know he'll be hopping around before long. Dexter is lucky to have you to fight for him. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
