Captain is home and doing ok in his first full day as a tripawd. He's uncomfortable and whining in his crate, but definitely happy to be home. They sent us home with a bandage, which can come off tomorrow, a drain, a full bottle of meds, and a cone of shame (which he totally freaked out about and we couldn't get on him). And, for anyone who is interested, he wears a size 3T in shorts. LOL

WELCOME HOME CAPTAIN!!!  YAY FOR CAPTAIN  :-):-):-)No place like home!

My Happy Hannah did a lot of whining and was very restless and uncomfortable for the first several night. She came home with Gabapentin, Tramadol, Rimadyl and an antibiotic. It took some trial and error before I got the doses figured out to keep her pain managed without making her whacko!

Curious what pain meds they sent Captain home with.  It is MAJOR SURGRRY and it hurts!   Keeping ahead of the pain is important.

Can't wait to see pictures of Captain in his shorts!!   I was very lucky with Happy Hannah in that she never made any effort to mess with her incision and never had to wear the cone or shorts!

Stay connected and let us know how things are going and if you have any questio s.  TRY and get some rest when you can!  Recovery doesn't last furever!

Hugs

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

I'm happy to hear Captain is home. Sally gave you great pointers and I agree to keep ahead of the pain. I didn't do too well with that with my cat. I was told to give the pain meds 3-4 times a day. I went with 3 and by the time she was due for her next dose she was getting squirrely. I should have given them 4 times a day.

I look forward to seeing photos of Captain in shorts. Unless he chooses to join the Naked Club, founded by Happy Hannah who invited Tripawd Kitty Mona to join. They wore nothing during recovery, no shorts, onesie, t-shirt, or cone. The only requirement to join is that the cat or dog never lick or chew on their stitches or staples. I would clean the area with a damp wash cloth to get rid of the dried on stuff and Mona was happy with that.

I hope the recover goes smooth.

After a rough night, he's doing really well this morning. My husband ended up sleeping on the couch near his crate because he was whining and upset all night, and he flipped out when he saw the cone. After some Tramadol and breakfast, we went for a mini walk. We just went to the edge of the yard to go potty and came back in, where he tried to play with the cat. I think, once the initial pain subsides, our biggest issue is going to be keeping him calm. Anyone have good crate-friendly toys suggestions? He has his Mr. Squeakums (his squeaky squirrel) and a kong already.
