My beloved Mini-Aussie, Mikey, literally snapped his front right leg off under a fence during a bark-fight last night. Took him to emergency vet hospital where he stayed the night. Picked him up this morning and took him to our regular vet. They are taking him in to surgery right now.
Thanks so much for all of the posts and advice given. We likely have a long road ahead of us, so I will be a frequent visitor here.
This is a picture of him on our way to the vet for surgery...
Aww poor little guy! I'm so sorry but glad he'll be OK. Please let us know if you have any questions at all, we're here to help you through recovery and beyond.

Check out all the information we have available here ro help prepare for life on three legs. Download 3 Legs and a Spare as a starting poi t.
You'll want to have non slip scatter rugs down if you have hardwood floors.
Mikey will have to take it very, very easy for the first weo weeks. It is major surgery and recovery is no picnic. Keepi g his pain managed is important a d he can be a bit squirrelly from the eds too! May not feel like eating or drinking at first. May not poop for a few days. May be a bit whining and restless.....and none of these things may happen !
Just know we are right here by your side should you jave any questions.
We'll look forward to your update. Try and get so e rest, okay?
Hugs to all!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
We ordered him new therapeutic beds from Amazon today...
He's always been whiny so I expect him to ramp that up as he loves attention. I'm going to work from home for the next two weeks outside of two days. Will arrange for him to be with the Vet on those days. He also drinks more water than any dog I have ever seen, so I am going to add a bowl in my bedroom so he doesn't have to go to the den...
Vet said surgery was 100% successful and he is doing well. Wanted to be there, but they ask that the owner isn't present as it gets the pup excited so I did as they asked. He is sedated and resting well they said...
His little brother, a Maltese, likes to antagonize him so we'll have to watch that as well...
Really glad ro hear surgery went well! That's such a huge relief!
We'll be looking forward to Mikey's homecoming. Your doing an excellent job of preparing things for him. I bet Maltese gives him his space after he greets him. He'll sense Mikey needs to be left alone.
Hugs to all the pack!

Yay for a successful surgery!
I agree, it's better to hold off on the visits until it's time to go home. Vets have told us that visits cause a lot of stress on the animals when their human goes home but they don't. It's so hard to wait, but the homecoming is even sweeter!

MIKEY IS HOME!!! YAAAAAAAAAY! That's a huge relief I'm sure!
Looking a little druggy Mr. Mikey, but you are still as cute as a button! He may feel a little less perky when some of the hospital meds wear off in a day or two. Then again, maybe not...every dog is different.
Let us know when he jas his first poop. We celebrate everything arounf here!
What's ".Maltese's" name? How has he reacted?
Est wishes for a smooth recovery!

Welcome home Mikey! Confinement and rest are certainly key to a safe and speedy recovery, as are keeping odd the furniture, and providing traction on slick floors.

I've pulled down old Persian Rugs from the attic and our hardwoods are completely covered with carpet. Still working on the ceramic tile, but it's not as slippery and he seems to navigate it ok...
What a cutie! Glad that he's home and with the pack again.
