Hi everyone,

I haven't been on in quite a while.  My little poodle, Angel,  was hit by a car 2 years ago and lost a back leg, lost a lot of skin on her torso and had surgery to fix her other hip which was broken.  She is still alive and well!!  She has slowed down a bit (we think she is at least 11 years old), but is enjoying life all the same.  We recently went on vacation to our usual bed, breakfast and biscuit.  She had to be carried some of the time, but mostly walked on her own.  And the loan we took out to pay for her medical bills will be payed off this month!  Woohoo!  We started fostering dogs a year ago and I fell in love with a deaf pitbull girl, so we adopted her.  I know now that we can care for dogs with all kinds of 'disabilities' and that these dogs don't even know that they are 'disabled'. With love and care they enjoy life just as much as 'regular' dogs. I thank God for saving my Angel; she is the doggie love of my life.  I know she wanted to stay with me so she fought hard to stay alive.  It was a looooong recovery but now she even jumps on the couch!  (We always pick her up when she asks, but sometimes she thinks "i'm not waiting for them, i'll get up by myself"!  Thank you all for your help and support 2 years ago!

WOwwwweee! Ruth, it is SO great to hear from you! We think of your little Angel often and wonder how she's doing. What great news! Please give her lots of hugs and belly rubs from us.

Angel is an incredible, resilient survivor. Her story can be read here but in short:

My little poodle, Angel, got hit by a car on Thursday May 14.  She snuck out between the gate and I heard her scream and a car stopped and I just knew something horrible had happened.  I dragged her out from beneath the car and we drove to the ER right away.  One of her back paws was only hanging by skin, so they took her foot off.  A huge peice of skin (probably 20% of her body) was torn off on her side.  It was still attached at the bottom so they took 90 staples to put it back on.  Her 'good leg' has hip/pelvis fractures.

She has been at the specialists' hospital all week.  About 1/4 of the skin flap has died so they removed it Wed May 20th.  She is covered with bandages, but they are hopefull that's all the skin that will die.  She gets to come home tomorrow Sat May 23 until Monday the 25th.  (I can't wait!!)  Then they'll replace her bandages.  On Tues they plan on putting a plate on her broken hip and amputating the rest of her other leg (that's missing the foot).

Then, in August, everything was so much better!

Angel is AMAZING!  We went on vacation early August (with the 6 dogs) to a Bed, Breakfast and Biscuit near Austin.  Angel actually swam in the creek (she never swims) and she ran with the rest of them.  It is a 1/4 mile walk to the creek, so I thought for sure she would be worn out when we got back to the cabin, but she still didn't quit!  She played and played.  The only part that she couldn't do was get up a hill covered with rocks, so she would plop down and wait for me to carry her.  She's busy hunting frogs in our pond, keeping the other dogs in check, chasing the big dogs while barking non-stop, squeaking her toys and snuggling with her mom and dad.  She is thoroughly enjoying life.  This afternoon she has her first haircut since before the accident.  I'm going with and staying to watch since she has so much scarring.  Then there will be a photo shoot at the house because she'll be so beautiful!

Thinking of you all,

Ruth and the 6 Pack

Just shows to go ya that even in the most terrible, scary circumstances, miracles do happen.

Yay Angel! Hope we get to Texas this winter so we can meet you in pawson.

By the way everypawdy, that B&B is called Decker Creek B&B.

How wonderful to hear that Angel is doing so well! And that you have expanded your family with other furbabies. Cheers to you, and am sending you many golden hugs.

Cathy
