Good morning,
I am leaving Christmas Day to drive to Montana to adopt a tripawd cattle dog. His left rear leg was amptuted about 3 months ago; he arrived as a stray at the shelter with a badly dislocated leg. Surgery was necessary.
My question is: is there a particular type (heated/non) and brand of bed, things I need to consider when buying him a bed...in short, I would like your recommendations please if there are any special things to keep in mind to ease his comfort getting in and out of bed, etc. Also, as caring for a tripawd is new to me, I have purchased him the Ruffwear harnass and an elevated food/water bowl holder. It is possible that by our return trip we will also have some Ruffwear boots/liners. Anyway, thanks very much for your forthcoming help (we are planning a trip to the Westpaw Design "factory" while we are in Montana. Happy Holidays.

We love to hear about angels on earth...you are very special to adopt one of these special guys...he will bring you much joy, lots of love and happiness and an experience like none other.
My guy LOVES the Kirkland bed from Costco...my Vet recommended it - said it's better than the ones they sell at the pet stores...and it's only like $20!!!
He will adjust to getting in and out of his bed...you will be surprised how they adjust to life on 3 legs. What a wonderful Christmas Day you have planned...now THAT is the meaning of Christmas!!!

Dear Mom and Zeus,
Thank you for your holiday wishes and great suggestion. We have a Kirkland bed awaiting our new fellow...but a guy has to have a couple beds, given all the places on this daily routine: the office, the car (for travel), grandma and grandpas...perhaps we need a few of these great beds. Actually, I lounged on JW's a couple days ago. Smells great and is cozy. Thanks again. Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Here's a great suggestion for making the ideal bed for three-legged dogs from my beloved Lalla. We just recommend that the bed be firm and low to the ground.
My people got me an expensive orthopedic pillow bed after my surgery, but I never used it! After a few night of me sleeping on the floor, they returned it and made me one out of 3" foam topped with an old sleeping bag, inside a flannel cover my mom stitched. Now that was comfy ... and it didn't bunch up so I could turn around easily.
