Hello, we had a couple of happy and fairly active days (going 2 or 3 houses down, but happily!) and now she is again very lethargic and just getting up with encouragement AND help about 3 times a day.

But I have the feeling she woud not get up at all if left on her own. Tail wagging is down too. She is eating less too. Still OK, but less. I read in Pams answer to Zoe, that panting and elevated heart rate could be from pain. Maybe I reduced the Previcox too soon? It is the only med she is taking at the moment. Previcox 227.

I'm getting worried, as this "down" is lasting now the fourth day and she does not seem to be very happy.

Thank you for your comments!

I would keep her on the Previcox, since it is an anti-inflammatory and is in that class of NSAIDS that may help delay the return of the cancer.  The main side effect would be upset stomach, but if she will be staying on it daily I would have bloodwork checked 1 month after starting then every 3-6 months.  Amputation is harder on these big guys and their bodies need time to adjust.  I would also consider acupuncture.

I do not know anything about the crotoxin but since you just started that it may be the cause of her lethargy.

Thank you Pam!

I'll make sure to get the bloodwork done then next week.

This afternoon she lay in the sun and barked at an arriving car, even tried to go say hello to the new arrivals (hopped about half the distance and waited the other half till people got nearerWink), so maybe she is just lazy und as you said "taking her time" to adjust.

Next week I'll have her heart checked also. It was OK before surgery, but my vet said it would be a good idea, to see if she needs help in that area.

Unfortunately, the is no acupuncture for dogs here. Zero.

Crotoxin should not have any side effects, but... you never know.

Thanks again.

Cecilia - I'm so sorry to hear that your sweet girl is not a happy camper right now. YES - GET HER BLOOD CHECKED as soon as you can - hopefully that will give you some answers. Lethargy is scary - I'm sorry. I'll keep you guys in our puppy prayers...please, please keep us posted.

Much love,
