OMG...I'm laying in bed and  my husband comes and asks "what's the pink pill do?"  I turn on the light and tell him that's his cholesterol pill.  He says "well I guess Lucian is going to have good cholesterol because he just took my pill."

WTH...how did Lucian get the pill?!?!  Apparently, the hubby dropped it and Lucian snatched it and swallowed it.

My question is do I need to worry this is going to kill him?  Lucian's 50+ lbs and turned 5 months old today.

The pill he took is a 20mg Simvastatin.  I know some over the counter meds are harmful for pets but I have NO IDEA about cholesterol meds.

Help!!!

I am not sure what it can do either.  If you have the Home Again Microchip you can call the ASPCA poison control and they waive the fee.  Or take him to the ER vet.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help

Well, he seems to be doing fine.  He's still with us and following the hubby around.  We were just outside and the wind is blowing here...so he's chasing leaves  and running around like he's lost his mind.  As I'm typing this the big lug is trying to crawl into my lap and keep from doing anything but focusing on him.

I think he's going to be fine...thank goodness...just with better cholesterol numbers...winker

Well I think he needs to go for his morning poop.

Hi Sahana and silly Lucian,

I am certainly not a vet, but I think Lucian getting hold of one of these pills will not hurt him......they can affect the liver, but I think it would take more than one pill to do any significant damage. Plus, the liver has the capability to repair itself, so at worst, have his liver enzymes checked soon if it is a worry for you. I know Dr Pam will give you much better advice, but I just wanted to alleviate some of your fear and stress.

Well, it's been over 12 hours since he took the little pink pill.  We've been outside a bunch this morning and he just runs around chasing leaves, watching birds, and looking for frogs at the pond.  He did wipe out there because he runs so fast and tries to swivel for a quick turn and he flipped himself over in the gravels.  It looked like it would hurt (at least if I did something like that) but he popped up and took off running again!!

He's gone and peed plenty but I haven't seen him poop yet...hmmm.  Not unless he snuck off while I was trying to turn on the spigot so he could get a drink...he was out of sight for a minute but it usually takes him a little longer than that to poop.  Oh well...I'll stay on the look out...winker

I think he's actually laying down right now...finally some peace without his trying to crawl in my lap while I type.

Oh Leland, you .ade the perfect choice to make your humans smile!

Nd you picked such a handsome boy too! I love the strong lines...the strong bone structure in his face. And those ears!!! I love the "lazy" ears!!! That just adds to his specialness! Besides, when you run like the wind and tumble and rumble, it's hard to keep those things up straight!

Love this update!!!!!

Oy vey the things I missed yesterday! I'm glad he's ok. No idea what kind of danger that poses but obviously not too much if he's pronking around like that. He sure is good lookin! Glad you figured out how to post photos.

He does have a very long snout ... Love it!

They are supposed to eventually stand on their own without the aid of posting (when they're taped up like a football goal post).  Leland's ears stood on their own fairly quickly...we only had to post them for 1 1/2-2 months.  Lucian's ears though are going to take longer.  Lucian's cut is different than Leland's (we had requested a Medium crop) but Lucian's is more like a "Show crop" because they're much longer than Leland's were which is typical of that type of cropping.

Lucian's ears were already cropped when we found him so we couldn't request the shorter cropping...sad

My husband is determined to get them to stand all the time so we'll just keep posting them.  He had a scab on one ear that we've been trying to heal up before we post them again...Lucian was scratching and made a sore.

I am sorry for the late reply but if your dog eats any unprescribed pill you should always call your vet or the poison control ASAP because some drugs can be absorbed quickly and have very serious side effects. Just 1 or 2 Advil eaten by an average size dog can cause a stomach ulcer or kidney failure.  Often it is advisable to make the dog vomit before the drug is absorbed and some dogs will need IV fluids or activated charcoal.  Some other drugs or chemicals can cause esophageal irritation so in that case you do NOT want to make the dog vomit.

I am glad that your dog is okay.

Pam
