Hey my name is Anna and I have a question about pressure sores on feet. I have found info on sores on knees and hips but can not find any help for sores on the foot. Sadie my furkid was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in October of 2013. She has arthritis in all joints and in her spine. I opted to just give her the best of what life she had left. However with food and environment changes and a positive attitude, she surprised me and just kept on going. Yippee! However, in July of 2014 her cancer spot ruptured and became infected forcing amputation. She has a front left leg amputation. She has done pretty well except has developed these pressure sores on her feet. My vet said I could wrap them if I changed them twice a day but I cant get a bandage to stay on. I am not sure how to dress them or help pad them because they are where she walks. Does anyone have any suggestions or had similar experiences ?? I have pictures but am not sure how to load them on here. Have loved reading and learning form others experiences on other topics, hopefully someone has an idea about these sores. Thanks!
WAIT!!! HOLD UP!!! Are you saying Saide just now had her amputation (July) but was diagnosed in October 2013??? No medical treatment, no amputation til now....she went NINE MONTHS on four legs???? STANDING OVATION GOING ON OVER HERE!!!!! Talk about making her own rules and throwing statistices out the window......way to g k SADIE AND MOM TOO!!! Wonderful job!
Now,as far as your original question, I dor have first hand experience, but I'm sure others will chime in.
One thing you might check out...Pawz"....they're ribber non sli p botties. It seems like you would be able to wrap with some padding and then put these booties on over it and help keep it in place while protecting the pads.
Poor thing, dealing with recovering from major surgery and now sores on her paws!
Would love to hear more about her when you can...and more pictures! The ava t ar picture is ADORABLE!!!!! One of those z"heart melting" mugs!!!
Has Sadie handles her amputation rexoveryokay?
Sending lots ofbhugs to you both...and continuing applause!

Anna and Sadie, welcome! First of all, your story is amaaaaaazing, congratulations on kicking cancer's butt!
We have had quite a few dogs here experience pressure sores on their feet. I'm not sure what they are caused by but it could be that Sadie is overly compensating in her Tripawd gait, even more so than a normal Tripawd would. By any chance have you done any rehab therapy work with her? It makes a huge difference in helping to correct balance and gait issues. Check out the Tripawds book Loving Life on Three Legs and the Tripawds Gear Blog for lots of tips like:

Meanwhile, about healing the pressure sores, here are some tips we've found that have worked for others:
Vetericyn spray helps heal wounds like pressure sores (scroll down for info).
For helping pressure sores heal, here's great solution to the paw soaking challenge by using PAWZ boots.
Also, here are Forums Search Results for the words "pressure sores feet."
I hope this helps. Let us know what works for Sadie OK?

When my Mastiff Tazzie had a pressure sore I soaked her foot in epsom salts daily and when the foot was dry I used a Ruff Wear bootie. I put a sock on her foot first so the bootie would not slide around. She would wear these all day and I would take it off at night so her foot could breathe. It took quite a while but it did eventually heal.

Thank you Pam, I thought of Tazzie's paw after I posted and forgot to go in and paste the link. Appreciate your sharing the solution you found.
