Hi,
So, I thought I might be able to get a quicker answer here since I can't call my vet until the morning... so here goes...
As you might know Champ has had an anemia issue. Well, I know I'm playing vet but with all the vitamins and red meats and the black stool (which the vet did tell me today was normal given his diet) I was afraid to do his metronomic chemo this past week... I thought maybe that was having possibly something to do with the anemia...
Anyway... this morning he seems like he was in a little pain so I gave him a 1/2 a Previcox which is what he used to get before the amputation. OMG... he is back to being my Champie...
So, I want to put him back on his metronomic chemo regiment (which uses Piroxicam) but can't remember how long he has to be off the Previcox before I can start him back on the Piroxicam. Now, I remember there being an issue if we were going to go to Predisone for his allergies (which we aren't) but wasn't sure if there was a 48 or 72 hours period he needed to get the other of his system...
Let me know if you're around or if anyone knows...
Thanks!!!!
PS... I'm just so glad to have a glimpse of my baby back... he means EVERYTHING to me...
Joy
I have never given my dog Previcox, she is a rear leg amputee and starting to have problems getting up and walking. I recnelty started her on Metacam. I saw in another post that Previcox is like "crack" for dogs which I assume means it makes them feel like super dog. I actually give it to my horse (oddly enough a dog size dose works in horses even though they weigh 10 times as much as a large dog - different body chemistry). Any other experience with Previcox appreciated. My vet seems not all that interested in prescribing it.
Joy,
From previous Dr. Pam posts, I think you should consult your vet on it. I for sure wouldn't do any switching unless you call your vet since they are both NSAIDS. You wouldn't want an ulcerated tummy!

Hi,
Thanks for asking... it makes such a difference to have you guys here...
Champ is doing a little better this morning and yesterday morning. I talked to my vet and he said since it was only a single dose to just wait a day and then put him back on the piroxicam. So, in a few short minutes, breakfast (gizzards and liver...yumm) will include his regular metronomic chemo routing which includes the piroxicam. I can't wait to see this afternoon/evening if he shows any effects.
I will keep you guys posted... he's still fighting though so I'm not giving up either...
On a side note... met another tripawd last night in Newburgh outside PetSmart. Edweana (I hope I spelled it right) joined our club a little over 2 weeks ago and looks GREAT!!!... She had osteosarcoma and is 13 years old. I told her mom about this place and highly suggested she join so, hopefully she will. I told her what a great support community all of you have been and I know will continue to be through this journey...
Thanks again,
Joy & Champ

So far so good... he went outside and even got down the drive a ways... more than he has in since he came down with the anemia... So, I'm going to wait and see... we are still doing the organ foods and vitamins.... Dr appt next week sometime to get another CBC and another Procrit shot...
He's not where he used to be, but it's so much better than last week...
Thanks everyone...
xoxo,
Champ & Joy
