Kali has been a tripawd for almost 6 months now and has been doing well .. But last night I think she might've slipped or fell? I came downstairs to find her at the bottom of the steps just lying down. Then when I was petting her, even the lightest touch made her whimper & cry :'( We tried getting her on the bed but whenever we tried moving her she started growling and wasn't happy with us at all (of course, I can't blame her!) She's eating fine and she tries to follow me wherever I go in the house. I tried to get her to stay on her bed but she forces herself to get up and whimpers all the way to wherever I am. So I try just staying close to her so she doesn't move too much. The pet emergency clinic is not a place I want her to go because it seems like all they do is just send her home with pain meds and tells us to call her regular vet & ends up charging us an arm and a leg just to do so. I'm waiting until 0730 to bring her in when her vets place opens but until then was wondering if I could get some advice on how to get her in the car or if there's an over the counter med that I can give her to help her relax? (I gave her 1 tablet of rimadyl & 2 tables of tramadol at noon and it doesn't seem to be helping her) The next dose is at midnight but I don't want her in pain :'( Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Oh gosh, I'm so sorry Kali is doing poorly!
If you can keep her comfy enough for the morning, then go ahead and wait. If she'll let you touch her at all, then try an ice pack on her back, hips or legs; where you suspect hurts.
I'm surprised the tramadol didn't help calm her. Whatever is going on is super painful. I suggest the ice since it may help with the inflammation until you can get xrays.
Here's hoping Kali gets better!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
