I was reading some posts regarding Cold Laser Therapy to promote healing (Daisy had these treatments) and I remembered years ago when I owned a horse and she needed stitches my trainer recommended a magnetic wrap to increase blood flow and promote healing (a leg wrap with a bunch of small magnets built in). The leg healed well but not sure if it had anything to do with the magnets or not .
Any experience with using magnet wraps on dogs or was this treatment proven bogus? I see they still sell them in the equine catalogs….but sometimes horse people hang on to cures like family heirlooms , past down through generations
Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.

Sorry, I never heard of them. But then again, the word equine threw me off too!
I guess Samson's legs aren't doing better?
I know that heat promotes blood flow which is why it's used for spasms. Moist heat penetrates deeper to the muscle. But I don't think you are suppose to use heat for arthritis because it causes swelling in the joints.
Ice should be used for pain because from what i understand; blood is warm and it rushes to pain sites, which is why ice reduces pain. And don't put ice on directly without it being wrapped and no longer than 15 minutes. And gel packs are colder than ice!
BUT Keep I mind, I have given myself frost bite before using ice!!! (gel pack) So, I don't use me as an expert!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Sam: On Nov 15, I really didnt think he would make it through the end of November. He was on 1 tramadol/day and Adequan injections every 3 weeks. He would wobble to stand up and fall backwards. There was a substitute vet at our office and she recommended we switch from Tramadol to Metacam. We tried the Metacam pills but they seemed to upset his gut. So we are now on the liquid metacam and Adequan injections every 2 weeks. He is like a new (old) dog. The wobbling is gone. He is still weak in the back end but can walk in and out of the house without assistance.
Magnetic Wraps: Truthfully, it was just one of those tidbits of stored away information that just percolated to the brain surface....I was really just wondering if anyone still used them. I THINK the theory behind them was that blood has iron, the magnets attract the iron, thereby increasing blood flow to the wound site and promoting healing.
Perhaps I will dig it around in my basement and see if I still have it ... and along with my mood ring. I'll put the magnet wrap on his hips and the mood ring on his tail and that way I can tell if likes it

OH! Mood rings are so cool! I always loved the, 'one size fits all"....just get your dad to adjust it with a pair of plyers!
Comet was on Rimadyl every day her last year. I wished I knew about Metacam at the time. I could tell within a hour of having her pill that it had kicked in because she was way more mobile. It really is hard seeing them get old.
Julie,
Comet really benefited from rehab and hydrotherapy. We have a center here. They would message her and stretch her and then put her in the water on the tread. Havve you tried anything like that? (I can't remember, if you said you have.)

Seems to me anything is worth a try. Just be careful with magnets around phones, computers, watches, credit cards….
Tani gets pretty wobbly on her back legs sometimes too. We are using rimadyl and glucosamine and have kept her going pretty well. Let us know if you try magnets.
My dad owned a company that made liquid crystal stuff including mood rings. He used to bring home sheets of the stuff for us to play with. I still have a trinket or two floating around, but I don't know what happened to the rings. I can't believe people would buy such a hideous looking thing .

OMD! That pic of Comet at her hydrotherapy session is THE CUTEST!
Don't know nuthin' 'bout no magnets, but hope Samson feels better!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman.
