My dog, Nolan, is a little over a year and a half and is healthy overall. I don't think this is a vaccination reaction, but a few days ago, he got his annual parvo/distemper shots. I noticed today that he seems to have painful bumps on his back and yelps when I pet him. I can't see any bumps, but his hair sticks up as if there are. He's been lethargic all day and didn't eat or drink until late in the evening. He also started having intermittent tremors, but that stopped after about 15 minutes. He still gets excited about playing and going for walks and I can tell he wants to, but he can't seem to manage to get up without a lot of effort. He also doesn't stand for longer than a few seconds and it takes a lot of coercing to get him up. There's no vomiting and his stool is normal. I called the vet and she thinks that it may be a bite from something, but it seems to be a bit more serious than that. I'm afraid that he may have a dislocated disc or worse. Has anyone else had similar symptoms or issues?
Ohhh poor Nolan. A very sweet photo by the way. Could it be a sprain of some sort? Has he do e so etching to pull a back muscle or a neck. muscle. That type of this g would be my first thought
Your vet needs to take a look and see what's going on. Those kind D's of strains, pulled muscles or pinched nerves can really be paifull and. make them. not want to move.
If it is some sort of "bite" your vet needs to check I to that much further too.
I'm not well versed on vacci action reactions but perhaps some of the Vet techs will chi e in.
You take it easy and try not to worry. Nolan will be fine...just need to check this gs out and see what the cause is.
Keep us posted please!

Well I just noticed there are small bumps all around his back, like hives, but don't hurt to touch. I also read that those could be a reaction from the vaccine, but it didn't mention anything about pain. I scheduled an appointment with the vet tomorrow so hopefully it's nothing too serious.
Thanks for the help!
Awww Nolan there you are! I agree, what a sweet face.
The only way to know for sure is to have your vet look at them. You're super dilligent for keeping an eye on them and noticing them in the first place! I hope they turn out to be nothing serious, please keep us posted OK?

Some smaller breeds can get pain at the injection site. Hives are possible but more commonly we see a swollen face/ears and vomiting. I would still see your vet because regardless of the cause your dog probably needs an antihistamine and possible a very short acting steroid.

Wow! That infection sure did make him feel bad. Bless Nolan's little doggy heart! Hope this makes him feel better real soon
I know originally you mentioned some concern about a reaction from vaccine. There is a boat load of info. here on the site debating the potential health hazards of vaccines...potentially. I guess if you must hit "vaccines" in the search section you'll find d it.
Nolan is such a cutie pie. Love that face!

Oh wow, who knew? Glad it wasn't anything too serious. Isn't a vet visit worth the peace of mind?!
