Since being off all his meds (which caused him to urinate less) Bury has been urinating much more frequently than ever before. Longer and more frequent potty breaks. He does drink a lot more water now that he's using more energy but I always let him out before bedtime and he still wakes up in the middle of the night to potty. Should I be concerned? Is this common?

I think increased urination is a normal part of aging. At 11, Bury is an older dog. Add that to the increased water intake and this sounds fairly normal to me.

Great question, I'm curious too. When was his last labwork done? Did your vet point out anything concerning then?

It would have been the day of surgery, so maybe 6ish weeks ago. Nothing else is out of the norm for him though.

While waiting for Dr Pam, maybe catch a fresh sample and take to Vet for analysis.   Soup ladle is the perfect tool to catch it.

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

It depends how much water you are talking about; more than an ounce per pound per day may be too much. It is not unusual for some dogs to get a UTI after amputation especially of they were not drinking or moving much so I would agree to start with a urine test and measure his water consumption if you are able.

Thanks for that input Dr. Pam!

I guess you could measure water intake by using a measuring cup to pour fresh water in the water dish every mourning. Now wouldn't it be great if someone made dog water dishes with fluid ounce markings on the side? Hmm, now there's an idea!

Great suggestion. It's worth trying when you've gotta measure, that's for sure.
