How much water should a dog consume daily?

Sorry to bug you Pam...but my vet forgot to give me the calculation on how much water my Rocket should consume.  And then I forgot to ask later.  If it's not too much trouble to do the math...how much water should a 21lb (super healthy, 3 year old - can feel his ribs) active dog consume daily?

Rocket has decided to not drink out of a water bowl.  Maddening.  I've tried ever thing.  At first he'd only drink outside.  But hardly ever now.  So, we add water to his can dog food (Wellness stew or Blue stews 2x a day).  And then I boil chicken breast in water and freeze the water in 5oz dipping cups. He gets 2 of those a day.  (10oz)  I leave some left-over chicken water in the fridge and give him about another 5-10oz throughout the day.

Of course he drinks chicken water! Just not plain water.  I know, I know - I've spoiled him.  But with summer here in Vegas, I'm concerned I may not be giving enough.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I'd be happy if he was drinking out of the toilet but he's not really big enough to do that.  Plus, I'm with him almost 24 hours a day.  He's holding out for the good stuff!

This whole water issue is a game to him!  He knows I want him to drink out of the bowl!  He likes to pester me about it!  When I bought a new bowl thinking that was the issue, he saw it and backed away from it like I had put poison in the water bowl!  And then I bought a water fountain because cat's like them (he does have cat features)....nope. I even put treats on it!  It's now boxed up in the garage.  I put fresh water in 3 bowls daily - that never gets drunk!  He watches me and snickers.  Gawd forbid if I put his chicken water on the tile floor and not on the carpet..........he barks at the bowl.  He really is a monkeybutt!

Oh, and Julie - he will drink the ice out of a Sonic cup!

Really?  You want it for your dogs?

Sure.  I'll send it.  (if I don't have to clean it) I guess it can sit in your garage if it doesn't work out.

Daily requirements for a dog his size would range from 15 to 20 ounces per day.  You would need to increase that if it is very hot or for exercise.  This includes water in canned food, etc so it is not as much as it seems. In general if a dog is eating then they are getting enough water on their own even if you do not see him drink.

Thank you Pam!!!  I appreciate it!  I guess that explains why he isn't plain drinking water!  He's getting his limit daily with chicken water and food...right now.

Hahahahhahahhahaha!  Samson!  Aren't you funny....you and Monkeybutt Bunny should go on the road together with your act!clapclapclapclap!

Charon - you know he is impossible!  He used to would eat ice cubes........HELL, he'd fight Comet over one!  Not now because he gets frozen chicken water treats twice daily. I haven't seen him drink out of his water bowl in two weeks now. He's a spoiled little boy!

Karen - he'd probably drink scotch....just not water! smiley
