We just had to put down our 5 year old Pit/Lab mix (Tank) who had dual hip dysplasia from birth and then was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma last year. We amputated the affected limb in November and did 3 different types of Chemo. It metastasized in his lungs and when it got worse we just decided no more Chemo, we will let him enjoy the remainder of his life...which came to an end on Monday, August 21st. We are now looking at getting another dog who has dual hip dysplasia as we already are aware of how to care for them, have all the needed items (beds, rugs, carts, etc.), etc., however, I would like to know if there is any correlation between an increased risk for developing Osteosarcoma if there is a case of hip dysplasia?
Hello Woolfy, welcome. We're so sorry about Tank. You were so good to him and cared for him right to his last moments. What a treasure to take with him on his heavenly journey.
I'll wait for our fairy vet mother Dr. Pam to give you her feedback, she may have seen a study about it. I however, am not familiar with any correlation between osa and hip displaysia, and have not seen any studies about that.
You're a saint for thinking of adopting the new special needs pup. Thank you.

I also want to add my condolences on the loss of Tank. You clearly gave Tank a chance at a life full of love and caring right from the start....and straight through to his transition.
We know how much the void hurts. And we also know there is no better way to honor your Tank than to expand the loving spot he has in your heart to include another dog. And my oh my, what a lucky dog that shall be! Tank has a dog picked out for you....don't know if it's this one, or another one, but he has the perfect one for you!
If you feel kike it, we would love to hear more about your Tank, as well as the lucky dog he brings your way!
Best wishes
