Hello,
Jerry suggested I create a brief post to this area.
I have an 18 month old St. Bernard with one front leg. For the past two months, I've noticed an increasingly large bulge in his front leg wrist joint. It is not hot to the touch and it feels like a water baloon. The dog is not too please when we touch it but does not appear to be in great pain. I'd appreciate any help with respect to the name, cause and treatment. Below are a few photos that may help. We really don't have money to see a vet right now but I don't want the dog to suffer for that. Our family would be grateful for any help.
Thank You - Greg
Oh you poor thing, ouch. I hope Tazzie has some ideas for you.

It sounds and looks like fluid in the joint. It could be sterile fluid from an overuse injury or septic fluid from an infection. Infected joints are usually hot/red. This is also a common location for osteosarcoma but that swelling would be hard. Unfortunately the only way to know is a joint tap and possibly xray since the treatments vary quite a bit.

Thank you for the response Pam.
I was hoping it could be improved with either a hot or cold wrap but I'm not a doctor so I don't know how to treat these kinds of things. I'll need to make a decision soon as to what I should do. We just don't have the $$$ to go to a vet right now.
I'll tell my wife and see what she'd like to do. We appreciate the help.
Greg
Thank you Pam.
Hi Greg,
I hope it's not serious. Remember you can always ask your vet to work with you on payments. No vet wants to see an animal suffer, I'm sure they would be willing to help you somehow. It can't hurt to ask anyways. This Financial Resources Download has some organizations that help with emergency cases like this. Let us know what happens OK?
