My Lucy is 6 and has been a tripod most of her life as the result of an automobile accident. She weighs 9 pounds and has been very active until recently. I think she experiences painful days in her hip and a radiograph diagnosed arthritis. At some point she will need surgery, either FHO or a total hip. We live in Charleston SC and FHO is the option locally , however I am willing to travel anywhere in the US/Canada for surgery. Any advice?
Hi Lucy and family, welcome. I'll wait for Dr. Pam to give her feedback but for now, I'm curious if she has seen a board-certified orthopedic veterinarian yet? I'm guessing you may have, but if not, that would be my next step. Since it may be a while before any kind of surgery happens, you really want to make sure her pain is well-managed. A canine rehab therapist can also be helpful right now.
Whether FHO or THR, here are some articles that will give you insight on what it's like to go through recovery with a Tripawd:

YAY FOR LUCY ROCKING TRIPAWDNESS!! And while you're wairing for our Volunteer Vet, and in addition to Jerry's comments, what meds is your meet pup on?
My tripawd has had crucite surgery on one of his remaining resr legs. He has developed arthritis and has some hip dysplasia in that same leg, as well has arthritis in his front elbow and probably his spine.
I'm starting him on a regimen of ADVQNCED Dasuquan (Vet prescription), at home injections of Adequan, Assis Loop, Galliprant and , as finances permit. I really hope to do laser treatments at some point consistently, with possible acupuncture. Hydrotherapy may be something you can check into also.
Not saying this is the way to go for you and certainly not giving Vet advice. Want to definitely ditto checking jnto a certified Rejab Specialist. The Tripawds Foundation may even pay for the first assessment.
Hugs
