Hi Drakey is on day 5 and I iced his incision site for 3 days. And today started warm compresses. I used a plastic bag so I did not get the sutures wet.  Drake has not licked his site either.  But I just noticed some drainage around the suture site. And in one particular area it is very red.  The other areas look darker like bruising.  It is not that swollen and I have been watching it every day. Im concerned because he had the amputation due to an infection in the bone.  He has had MRSA in the past as well. I cannot see signs of pus.. but it's hard to tell because there are some blood tinged drainage sites. If it stays Clear that is ok correct?

It could be a seroma which is much more common than infection or could also be cellulitis; please attach a photo if you can.  Infection is still possible but yes that is usually a thicker yellowish discharge with an odor.

I took him to the vet because it would not stop bleeding. I thought so too , but with his high risk of infection I did not want to take a chance.  And sure enough when I got there they said pus was coming out.  So he has been back in the Animal Hospital with IVs and antibiotics etc.  Last night was his 2nd night.  Im waiting today to hear from the surgeon.

Im scared for my sweet Drake... he has been in and out of the hospital and surgery since February of this year.  I just want his pain to end.  I have good Vets now that care.  The surgeon called me on her day off from the Dog Park.  Finally someone cares.
