My girl is 3 weeks post op of front right leg amputation....sometimes she does well, but she has moments where she doesn't seem to relax...she will look around her body and then start licking the other front leg or her sides until she salivates....she didn't do this before...could this be an anxiety reaction??
Thanks so much
Michelle
HEY mICHELLE!
Obviously I'm not the vet but jist wanted to throw so.ething out there.
Are you making apoint to "scratch" the places she can't because of.the amputation. Also, because she maneuvers differently now, you have to be avle to kinda help her groom her ears, her face, etc.
Also, my Happy Hannah licked her front paws/legs off and on for many weeks...don't know if it was because her front legs were shaved and that felt prickly or itchy to her, , or she had shots,/blood drawn or whatever.
Also, one more completely non vet thing to throw out there....she could have a pain somewhere that she can't quite pinpoint...or reach...and this licking is a misquided attempt to soothe that pain.
When that happens, you may tru massaging and scratching all over and see if that helps.....could also be leg cramps of some sort.....OWEEE!
Again, just throwing stuff out there til the professionals chime in!
Sending you and yourbpup best wishes! Would love to hear more about her journey.
TAKE CARE,!
Sally and Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Sorry for the delay but it could be phantom pain , anxiety, or after-effects of anesthesia and pain meds. I usually start gabapentin prior to surgery but you can also use it post-op if phantom pain is a possibility.
