My almost 13 year old lab is 9 days post rear leg amputation secondary to a Mast Cell Tumor.  Her recovery is slow, but she is progressing as well as can be expected.  For many many months prior to surgery she had periods of inappetance.  Now post surgery she is almost completely anorexic.  She will nibble a few bites of some hamburger meat, cheese, chicken, or salami that is hand fed to her, but she is rapidly losing weight.  We have her on mirtazapine to stimulate appetite, but it doesn't seem to have much of an effect.  We're very concerned that she'll beat the cancer but die of complications related to starvation.  Our surgeon and our home vet have no experience with CBD oil.  My biggest concern is that she will be starting on steroids and/or chemo within a week or two.  If we use the CBD oil, is it safe to use with steroids and chemo?

As far as I know it should be fine but always ask your oncologist.

Ask your vet about Entyce for appetite stimulation.

We had a dog with neurological issues who had very little appetite, I had her on CBD oil for a couple of months and didn't notice much difference in her appetite, she was prescribed prednisone at one point and that made a huge difference (however it has very negative side effects and shouldn't be used unless absolutely necessary), unfortunately the neuro issue advanced rapidly and we had to let her go, but in the few weeks she was on it she did gain about 10-15 lbs. We also switched her to a raw food diet which she found far more appealing than kibble. As far as the safety of using CBD and steroids, I couldn't say, I did use both together, but my girl had a very short time to live at that point and we were willing to do anything to try to keep her comfortable.
