Happy Hannah started it a week ago tomorrow...everyday. Now, from what I understand from some of the posts ere, some dogs are doing the Cytoxan every other day. Now..and I want to be real clear here...at first my ocnco.. said every OTHER day.....then when the prescription, the directins said EVERY day.

So, I'm on the phone immediately and she says...."Yes, EVERY day! When she first said every OTHER that was based on a DIFFERENT milligram doseage"
Soooo, I don't know if tne trend is to go every other now or what.

Hapy Hannah is 115 lbs. and is on 20 mg Cytoxan once a day. Her Piroxicam is 15 mg. once a day. I learned from Sassy to give it in morning and that way they can pee more often during the day rather than holding it all night straight through. Emptying the bladder frequently keeps that cytoxan from sitting in there and causing UTI. I understand boys dn't get them very often from the Cytoxan because they pee so mich anyway!

So in another week, it will be two weeks. Shell have blood work-up and i guess that show if she's handlin g it okay......then another two weeks more work-up......then, after that every other month
It's my plan to continue this protocal for "awhile".......if there is theSLIGHTEST challenge, I'm taking her off immediately. I may--or may not-- switch over to Lukeran after 'awhile'. I'm just being fluid with this whole protocal.

Yeah, it's my understandingthat these drugs re very "specific", especially Cytoxan, and just messes with the blood vessels feeding the crap disease so it can't live.

Have not seen any side effects (k ocking on wood over here) at all? Great appetite, drinking, peeing, pooping, wagging---very, very happy!! She may...or may not...be a little bit more tired??? Possibly?? Or, more likely, it's the heat!

Okay you, time for you to go play with Bogi!! Live like a dog:-) :-)

We're here! Right by hour side! Do you see us?? .....You DO??....Aw..ohhhh......

Ugh I'm so sorry to hear this horrible news!!! Thinking of you and wishing you many more wonderful days with your beautiful boy.

Kathy

Tasha was a German ShepherdBorder Collie mix who was diagnosed with OSA at age 8.  On December 29, 2011 she had her front right leg amputated and received 4 rounds of chemo.  Sadly and suddenly Tasha became sick and we discovered she had liver cancer that had spread to her lung.  After almost 19 months, Tasha earned her wings on July 17, 2013. No regrets and never forgotten.

I am so sorry.  My heart aches for you.  Try to push the grief away and make the most of the time you have left. It could be weeks, it could be months.  Cancer is so unpredictable and there is no way of knowing for sure. Don't let it steal this time from you.  Make each day a special day, filled with love and joy for you and Bogi.

Magnum did different metronomics .   She was fine with Piroxicam but she also had Palladia which messed with her tummy something awful.

Many hugs

Karen and Spirit Magnum

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. Mannie, as I mentioned in the chat, yes this news is awful (and I"m soooo sorry, I know this is so hard to deal with), but put yourself in his paws; he doesn't want you to be upset while he's still alive and enjoying each day with you. There will be plenty of time for tears some other time.

By the way, whenever you see the word "metronomics " if you click on that link it will point you to tons of information about it.

Many, many hugs coming your way.

Mannie,

Sassy has been on Metronomics (Cytoxin & Rimaydl Nsaid) for almost 6 months.  She has lung mets not quite the same as what Bogi has.  We give 22 mg of the Cytoxin in the am & 125 mg of rimadyl (carprofen is the generic).  Now she has gotten UTI so we are switching to the Leukeran which is 6 mg and keeping her on the same dose of Carprofen.

Jackson (boy dog) has also gotten UTI at 5 months of being on the Cytoxin so they are also switching ot the Leukeran or Chlorembucil (generic).

We are still going strong.  They have given you some options to try.  Like was said earlier you can stop the chemo part of it if he doesn't do well on it and continue with the Piroxocam.  I will say the Leukeran is a little more expensive.  I am a little nervous to start a new drug but once a dog shows a reaction we have to stop the other.  I refused to totally take her off of it until we get the new drug which should be here today or tomorrow.  Too afraid the mets would go crazy.

Just know that we are all here with you and her to support you in your decisions.

Hugs

Michelle & Sassy

I'm sorry to hear this news about Bogi, but it also sounds like you and your doctors are forming a plan of action for him, which is great!  My dog Max was on Cytoxan.  He also had to take a medicine called Lasix, because the Cytoxan can cause the blood in the urine issue.  Max never had any issues while on Cytoxan, and handled it very well.

And I know it's hard, but try to remember what others have already said:  Bogi doesn't know he's sick.  Try to stay strong for him.  Don't waste away your time with him being sad; there will be time for that later.  He's doing well right now, he loves you, and that is what matters.  Stay strong for Bogi!

I am so sorry for this diagnosis.  I would at least do an NSAID like meloxicam or piroxicam for anti-tumor benefits as well as pain control.  It is up to you if you want to also add the Cytoxan or consider other holistic treatments such as mushroom therapy or liver support.  The main risk with these lesions is bleeding so I would take it easy but enjoy every day that you can.  Remember your dog does not know he is sick so just try to stay relaxed and stick to your routine as best you can.
