Hi All..
Bella is now 3 weeks post op and has been doing super well... getting
along on her 3 legs like a pro.. off all medication and had her 1st
round of Chemo one week ago today and only got sick once a couple days
after..... The last couple days it has been crazy with family and Bella
has been doing a lot... Walking up and down the stairs a million times
to follow everyone around the house.. playing with our other dog with
their new toys etc... Then today my stomach just dropped when I her
sleeping with a pool of pee under her... this happen two more times
today... Even though she has asked to go outside and is peeing normally
when she goes out. I have no idea what to think.. She is doing
perfectly and I pray that this is nothing seriously... Anyone ever had
any experince with this?Thanks..
Karen and Bella

We had this problem with our dog Linda once, when we first adopted her. Â She had a couple accidents on our bed, and it was clear to us she could not control it. Â We took her to our vet who said it was some type of hormonal thing because she was female. Â She was put on estrogen pills for a bit, and it went away. Â We haven't had the problem since, and that was more than 3 years ago. Â I wish I could remember more details about what our vet told us, but I can't. Â Anyway, maybe Bella's problem is something similar.
I would have your vet check a urine sample, since chemo can make a dog more susceptible to infections. If the urine does not show infection then it could be incontinence due to a leaky sphincter muscle. Is she still on any meds? Narcotics like Tramadol can sometimes relax the muscles so much that leakage occurs. If she is not on meds and there is no UTI then your vet may prescribe either PPA or DES (estrogen) to help control leakage.Â
