I just came back from the vets office with the excitement of knowing that Shilo's White count came back great. They did ask me if she was drinking a lot and I said no why?? They said that her HCT was high and to try to encourage her to drink more. I asked if there was anything else that could cause it and she said that was all the vet told her, although I felt like there was something she wasn't saying.

So I go on-line and do a search... Is it true that this can be a sign that her cancer is back??? I am hoping that this is not the case... I am hoping that I am just worrying more then I need to..

Shilo diagnosed with osteosarcoma 9/4/2009, amputation 9/9/2009. ShiloAnne lost her battle 11/23/2009 where she regained her fourth leg and is patiently waiting for her parents to join her. We will always love you baby girl.

The hematocrit (HCT) is the measure of red blood cells.  A high value is common with dehydration so that is probably what they are referring to.  In general chemo tends to lower the hematocrit so I do not get concerned if the value is running a little high.

Thanks Pam... I just hadn't really noticed a difference in her drinking habits, but I am glad that this is the general rule. She is getting another CBC and x-rays in 2 weeks so I will use the chicken broth trick that some here have mentioned.

By the way love your Tazzie he is a cutie smiley1
