Hey everyone!
I was curious if any of you feed your dogs with slow feeders and if so which ones? Domino has always been a voracious eater and absolutely gulps his food down. For the last year or so we've been using a "Gobble Stopper" that we got from the pet store that looks like this:
In the beginning it worked amazing! It was taking Dom 2-3 times as long to eat his food. But now, the little rascal has somehow figured out how to gobble his food around the gobble stopper lol. The tricky part is since I feed him in an elevated feeder I have to find a stainless steel slow feed bowl that will fit in his feeder :/
A vet that I work with suggested a "Brake-Fast" bowl, similar to this:
Do any of you have experience with it? I'm a little skeptical, and think that he'd be able to eat around the pegs with no problem lol. I really prefer to use stainless steel, it's better for him and easier to clean, but apparently there aren't many slow bowls in stainless steel. Any suggestions would be great!! Hope everyone is doing well!

Domino had his left front leg amputate on May 13th 2014 after being hit by a car. He's now living a happy healthy life on three legs :)
We tried the Gobble Stopper with Murphy. It didn't take him long to figure out how to dislodge the suction cup and gobble away. We did end up with the plastic version of the other one you show. That seemed to slow him down somewhat.
My daughter uses an automatic feeder for her Rotty. It plinks the food out a few kibbles at a time and makes him eat slower. They have it rigged up so it is at a raised feeder and dispenses the food into his regular bowl. If you are interested, I can check for you on what brand it is and maybe have her send a picture of how it is set up.
Ollie started out as a fairly picky eater, but has since turned into a Labrador. I feed him with water added to his kibble, as he isn't a big water drinker, so it helps to get his daily H2O into him. He is a much slower eater than Murphy was

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
We have (had) the same problem with Meesha. We tried the "Gobble Stopper" but when our backs were turned, Meesha ate the plastic bone in the bowl. Although we don't like serving their food in plastic bowls (possible allergies) this bowl is what we ended up with and she has slowed down considerably. Plus, it's hard plastic where she can't "eat" it, although she has tried.
Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

Obie vacuums his food, no chewing needed!
I use this bowl for him which is similar to the steel one you show. He has a pug nose so he has to use his tongue to get to the nooks and that slows him down somewhat. I also do not feed kibble as the main meal, I use Honest Kitchen. When he does get kibble I have to soak it so he doesn't choke on it.
I know you want to use the raised feeder, but there are lots of maze type feeders out there now that might slow Domino down. The other thing you could try is to rotate bowls so when he gets the hang of one you change it up.
BTW- Tani was quite a vacuum-er in her time too. I once tried a really heavy bone in the middle of her bowl so she had to eat around it. Her solution to that was to dump her bowl over on the floor and vacuum away! Hummm- maybe you could try various objects in the bowl- nylabone type things to make him work around them?
Good luck- the only thing that really slowed the pugs down was age!

I have no insight, but I'm thoroughly enjoying reading all the antics of our smart doggies!!
Frankie is a very "dainty" eater...prefers lying down while eating and enjoys chewing slowly.
Merry Myrtle...INHALES ...vaccums it up in about two gulps! Now, keep in mind that it's just myself and my dogs, so my home is...hmm...very well loved in! Translation: keeping my home spotless is just not a priority! Soooo.......I jave no problem scattering cups of Merry Myrtle's kibble across the floor to slow her down just a tad. Obviously, I don't sling her chicken and Honest Kitchen mash across the floor, that stays in her bowl. She slings that on her own when she shakes her head to clear the drool off her mug!

We have to use slow feeders with both Tanner and Milo. They are crazy fast eaters. We have Kyjens. Tanner has the pink flower bowl and Milo has the small orange dog games one (like the one Harmony posted). We love them. It takes them 3x as long to eat.

Thanks everyone! I love the maze feeders so much, just not sure how I could fix it to his elevated feeder :/
I do like the idea of getting a couple and rotating them out, that way there's always a new challenge lol. So I may try that and see how he does.
Thanks again!

We got this Kong for Ollie to use for his "treats" while he was on a limited diet. Just a handful of his regular kibble, but he thinks he's getting something special. The Kong is hard plastic and the bottom unscrews for loading.

Ollie! You are so darn cute!! Watch out humans, Ollie will figure out how to get that Kong open!

Wyatt feeds from a Brake Fast Bowl, otherwise he'd scarf it all down.

I also use a Brake fast bowl and a blue plastic bowl from JW Pet company that has ridges instead of the pegs. I couldn't find stainless steel way back when and my vet suggested big pond rocks that actually worked good. These bowls work good but Hank is chewing on them when I forget to pick them up so I will get the SS ones next time.
