Itâs the most commercial time of the year
With everyone selling
And everyone telling you âBuy more crap here!â
Itâs the most pathetic time of the year
Â
Itâs the crap-crappiest season of all
With lots of over-eating, your waste-line is fleeting
Your pants wonât fit at all!
Itâs the crap-crappiest season of all
Â
Crappy music is blaring
Uncle Ed wonât stop swearing
And you just want them all to go!
Thereâll be fights at the table
And grief from Aunt Mabel
âBout something said twenty years ago.
Â
It's the most tortuous time of the year
There'll be much need for valium
And rum by the gallon
When family are near
It's the most tortuous time of the year
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 â Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months â half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Oh, and almost forgot to add, I love the idea of the Bad Attitude Christmas-movie Marathon.
I love that version of Scrooge with Albert Finney. I know ALL the words to "I Hate People".
And it cracks me up that you have Lethal Weapon and Diehard on the list. My brother (who is practically Scrooge incarnate) always says "Diehard" or "Lethal Weapon" when people ask what his favorite Christmas movie is. They usually give him a strange look.Â
Pretty much every year I get out my copies of Scrooge and Nightmare Before Christmas.

Our one family tradition that we will not break is that we watch "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation", usually on Christmas Eve. It always makes me feel good (and warms my frozen cockles, too, Jackie) to see someone else's family screwing it up and being unhappy. Never forget the great line "Â I don't know what to say, except it's Christmas and we're all in misery." But even better, and what speaks to some of the sentiments being expressed here, is "And when Santa squeezes his fat white a** down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of a**holes this side of the nuthouse."
Nuthouses and Christmas just go together like wine and cheese.

Ge'Lena - thanks for making this post. This especially hits hard for me this year - I lost Mackenzie on Dec 29th a year ago and this month is a constant reminder of what was going on a year ago and how Mackenzie's health continued to decline.  It took me some time to finally decide that I would put up a tree and decorate our house.  Mackenzie was always sitting in the living room with me, while we listened to holiday music and decorated the tree. When I told a friend that I wasn't sure I could really get into the celebration this year, she said...but that's not what Mackenzie would want. So I gave in and am taking it very slow - one day at a time, one ornament at a time, especially the ornaments that represent my golden girl. Scarlett our little puppy has now become my new Xmas companion - it's almost as if she knows that my heart is heavy right now. So she just sits there quietly with me, while I decorate the tree, looking up at me and letting me know it's ok (and trust me, she's definitely not the quiet type!)
It's so nice to be able to share our feelings about our 1st Christmas without our babies. Thank you everyone - you've made me feel a little better knowing that I'm not alone this year.
Oh and that's a great idea about the "bad attitude Xmas movie night" - love it! 3 paws up as Dan would say!
Kami, Angel Mackenzie, Kobe and Scarlett
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
I told Lee that I wish I had known last year that it was my last Christmas with Bo. I would have done more or relished in every moment...something more. He said, no you wouldn't...you would have been sad knowing it was his last. That is true. And last Christmas was special and memorable because we were in our new house. First fire in the fireplace, lights on the house, Santa on the fire truck riding through the neighborhood...it was beautiful. I'm glad that my last Christmas with Bo was so special and happy.
That being said....Bah Humbug this year!! I can't get in the holiday spirit. We're getting a tree today so hopefully that will help lift my spirits.
Meghann, I think Lee is a smart guy.Â

I have a family Christmas tradition to share. On Christmas morning, we watch 101 Dalmatians (the cartoon version), as we drink very large mimosas. We started the tradition when we had Maggie, an absolutely adorable dalmatian/lab mix (our very first furkid as a couple.) We have continued the tradition, even though Maggie has been gone for over 4 years now. Last year, we added the movie "Santa Paws" to the mix (mostly because the champagne bottles got bigger-really, it's on Ranger's blog) Anyway, I'm not suggesting y'all change the movie selection, I'm just suggesting adding some OJ and champagne....or eggnog and rum....or beer and, ummm beer! And by the way, I will be thinking of all of my friends (that means you guys) this holiday and wishing that we could all be together to watch 101 Dalmatians, Santa Paws, Christmas Vacation, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Scrooge and re-runs of Jersey Shore ('cuz Snookie is a dog, but not a tripawd...omg, did I just say that?) 'night all!!!
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Lisa,
OJ and Champagne for breakfast! WOOHOO! My clan will all be over to your house at 9am this year!!
Â
Kami,
We sure did have a blast last year though! I have wonderful memories! And I'm certain there will more down the road!
Here's a pic again of "Kami Cookies" from last year! (Kami, sent Comet a cookie mix with cookie cutters! Thanks to my mom, they got made for Christmas!)
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Thanks for posting this, Cometdog. I'm in such a funk this year too - not putting up a tree, not sending cards...just doing what I can to get through this first Christmas (and birthday) without Chloe. Last year was hard enough without Skyler, and now we have a rerun....
But I am happy to have my two MB's - Peyton & Darby...
Merry Christmas everyone!
Cathy
We haven't even lost anyone this year and are in a funky, Bah-Humbug kind of mood. I even found Brian a coffee mug with the Grinch on it. With an election in 3 months, a new business to start at the beginning of the year, presents to buy and dozens of family members to see in 2 days, we just can't get in the spirit of the holidays.Â
Since we have no human children, we are the ones to travel all over the state of Illinois at Christmas. Ginger can only go to one place because my nephews are either deathly scared of dogs or deathly allergic. I just want to stay at home, in bed with Ginger and watch Christmas movies. And the really good ones too, like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Scrooged and Bad Santa (when the eggnog kicks it because it is even funnier then!!)
Abby's mom- Brian always tells people that Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are his favorite Christmas movies and gets the same weird looks!!
It makes me feel so much better to know that we are alone. This site has taught me that about cancer and three legged dogs, glad to see Christmas cheer is now included too!!
Annie, The Grinch's wife
I sit here in tears wishing I had never written this post. Spoiling even one second of Christmas cheer for Charon crushes me beyond belief.  Because no one has ever been as close to me as a sister like Charon has and that is a great cause for celebration.Â
I place my beloved tripawd ball on my tree in memory of Gayle.Â
I loved your from afar Gayle. And it goes without saying, I love you too Charon.

Ge'Lena, from where I sit, Charon is grateful for your friendship and love and support. You didn't spoil anything. If anything, you gave a lot of folks permission to let out what was sitting there, just wanting out.Â

We did put our tree up and it is beautiful. I cried lots in the process though. We had to move the tv stand and there was a big poof of Bo hair. đ putting the tree up did remind us of a funny thing that Bo used to do....it may make me sound like a bad paw rent though!
Bo had notoriously bad breath...mainly because he frequented MC Belle's litterbox.....I know...ugh! Being a lab, Bo chewed and got into everything! One Christmas, he got caught chewing on a branch from the Christmas tree. I read that they can be toxic and waited for him to get sick. Of course, he never did, but his breath smelled pine fresh!
I am in the funk too this year for Christmas â Obviously my beautiful girl isn't here with me either and its the pits.....
Â
I started making christmas stockings last year and then Riley broke her leg - I stopped and they were never finished - I hung them up this year even though they aren't quite done - but there is now one missing this year......
