All of these stories are making me smile tonite!

We didn't have Sadie for very long, but she definitely had a few quirks.  First, she truly believed that the t.v. housed real people and animals. She didn't mind the people being in there, but she really wanted the animals to come out of there and play with her.  She would run over and jump on the t.v. whenever there was an animal on the screen.  She knocked our smaller t.v into the wall behind it (no more animal planet for us.) The big screen has a plastic "screen protector" that now has quite a few scratches on it.  After her amputation, we thought her t.v. jumping days were over, but the first time she saw the Geico commercial with the pig (WEE!WEE!WEE!), it was over! We're lucky the t.v., and the piggie survived.

Her other quirk was this grudge she had against her left back leg. She would lay curled up on the floor, and start to scratch her ear with her back paw. As soon as the paw came into her peripheral vision, she would growl, show teeth and let try to attack it! This became a potential problem when she was down to three legs!

She also liked to chase her own shadow, other people's shadows, the shadows of bugs and inanimate objects. It probably came from more than 2 years cooped up in an outdoor kennel at the shelter (gotta do something to pass the time.) We would sing to her...."I'm being followed by my own shadow"  to the song moon shadow by cat stevens.

Thanks for letting me reminisce for a while...and I love everyone's stories!

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

OMD, Sadie, I think I've seen a video of you!!! There was this one on YouTube that went around for a while of a dog chewing a bone and growling at their foot! It almost made me wet my pants! Was that you?!

Our Monkeydog Zeffy likes to watch TV, but she's never attacked it yet.

No, that wasn't Sadie, but I've seen the video and it's pretty similar. She even did it in the hospital after her amputation. It was quite the story with the staff there (apparently the fentanyl didn't stop her either.)

What a great topic! This is all from their sites at Rainbows Bridge...

Here are some things about Skyler:

Every morning Skyler would put her front paws up on the side of the bed, wanting someone to wake up and play with her. She always had a toy in her mouth (usually her favorite toy the plush Squeaky Ring that Grandma gave her) to greet us, wagging her tail and ready to start a new day. In the evenings, Skyler would do a loud "woof", then sit right in front of us... staring...and staring... - letting us know that now would be a good time to feed her.

Skyler had many toys to play with, although Chloe was always the "toy hog" on any new toys for the first few days. Sky would just hang back and not touch them until Chloe got bored with them. Some of Sky's toys were Moose, Bunny, Lammy, Cow, Monkey, Ropey Kong and Squeaky Bone. She loved retrieving a tossed toy, always running and pouncing after it.Of course, you had to do this several times with her, until she was ready to play alone and hunt with it. She loved playing "where's Skyler?" where we would cover her eyes and ask, and then uncover and cheer "here she is!". Another fun game she loved was if you were laying on the floor, both Skyler & Chloe would get very excited if they heard "HELP, I'm being attacked by Goldens!" They loved giving lots of kisses, and wagging their tails.

Skyler loved other dogs and kids and just wanted everyone to be her friend. She liked to lean against the fence in the back yard so the little boy next door could pet her. She loved bananas and Frosty Paws. One of her favorite places was the little cabin we would go to in the Georgia mountains where she could run free and swim in the creek.

And Chloe:

Chloe was the happiest pup we ever knew, and she should have been named Happy. Her tail never stopped wagging. As was the case with her sister Skyler, we had many nick-names for her - Chlotilda, Missy-Moo, Silly Old Hound Dog, Chloe-O.

She was our constant shadow, always going from room to room to follow us. She had to always be at our side, unless she was fighting (playfully)over a toy with Skyler. She was very vocal, and sounded like a motorboat every time she was excited about going out for a walk or to just greet us when we got home.

One of her favorite habits was to run into the bedroom and crash into the double decker soft doggy beds we had set up for them. Laying on the floor, she would lift the top bed with her snout and toss it aside. She would wipe her mouth all over, and just make happy noises. Another habit was to lay on her back playing turtle, with her four paws extended straight out - wiggling to scratch her backside. She also loved to pull all of the beautiful flowers that looked like balls off of the bush in the back yard. We loved to watch her leaping as high as she possibly could to reach the ones higher up. Chloe also loved to rest on the fish shaped rug in the bathroom while we would take showers. You always had to step over her, as she would never move out of the way.

I miss those two soooo much...
