As Sally mentioned here, we really hope this bill passes and other states follow.
Proposed bill would require shelters post notice before euthanizing some animals
DENVER — Advocates of the “no kill” movement in animal sheltering plan to propose a new bill during next year’s legislative session requiring shelters to post a notice that they are about to euthanize a healthy and treatable animal in their care.
The bill, which is still being drafted, would require shelters to give 72 hours notice to other state-licensed shelters and rescue organizations before they perform euthanasia on an animal that is considered healthy and treatable.
Yes, it's really true. The number of surrenders these days is staggering. I volunteer to answer incoming emails for the rescue where Nellie came from, and I get far too many each week from people who can't keep their animals.
I'm glad to see bills like this in the works. Nellie was 48 hours from that sad fate when we adopted her. She wasn't even given a chance, didn't even make it onto the shelter's list of adoptable dogs. I wouldn't have known about her if I wasn't answering emails for that rescue, and a shelter volunteer had notified us about her, a "vet favorite" at the shelter. It makes me so sad whenever I think about that, because she is just the most amazing dog. There are millions of Nellies that need homes right now.

That was FATE, NO DOUBT!!! The universe lined up for Nellie and you both!💝 thank heavens!!!
The backstory to how close Nellie was to.........yeah, can't even say it.
To not even be put on the adoptable list to be given a chance. I can't even imagine how many dogs have that same fate because of not being quite "perfect".
Clearly Nellie was meant to be yours♥️ We all Know Jerry and Wyatt were protecting g this gal until you caluld bring her home.
