Putting this post under "Anything Goes" cuz I've got a mixed bag of stuff here!
I have a couple of "pleas" for Abby. First, and most importantly, plea # 1 is: can you all please keep a good thought for her follow-up x-ray tomorrow? Since we had to stop the Palladia, I'm a little worried that her Lone Met will no longer be a loner, or will have gotten a lot bigger. When we stopped the Palladia, we started giving her Cytoxan every day (we had been switching between the two every other day). I also started added in Artemix (to the mix) about 10 days ago, so hopefully those two things are picking up any slack from the stopped Palladia. Ugh. Nervous….
Plea #2: If you have a second, please vote for Abby to get our cute tripawd into the local paper's Dog Days of Summer photo contest. Just want to share her cuteness with everyone and see her pic in the paper. (Abby adds, "And we wanna show that Tripawds are awesome! Take that, monkeybutt dogs!") Anyway, you can vote for her here. It's free and only takes a sec. No registration or anything like that.
Finally, a Thank You to Tripawds.com for our very stylish bandana. Here are some pics of Abby sporting it:
I'll let y'all know how the xray goes…
Thanks!
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

Too late Scabby Abby! I W-O-N !
Take that! Next time - try putting PEEPS on your head and see if that will get you an award! Waaa! Waaaa! Crybaby.
Abby says, "My mom doesn't have to doctor my photos for me to win stuff. Just you wait and see, silly Monkeydog. I am already up to triple digits in the voting! If the paper ever has a 'Dazed Dogs of Summer' contest I'll be sure to let you know. You could probably win that one, what with the blood rushing to your head with all that pathetic showing-off-so-you-get-some-attention jumping! Bwwwhahahahahah."
Abby's mom says, "First of all, thank you for the votes for Ab. However, in other news, the vet appointment was not good. You know it's not a good one when the vet hugs you at the end... I know there is still some hope, and I know there are still good days ahead with our sweet baby, but right now I'm feeling very sad. Right now, I feel like it's all downhill from here. The x-ray showed her once lone met had gotten bigger and now has a friend. (You can read the details here. Don't feel like typing it again. ) Having a bit of a wallow and trying to not let Ab see me down. She is her usual oblivious-to-it-all self, which is good. I know I should go eat something and have some water and try to get rid of this headache and try to stop feeling sad... And I'll go make myself do that soon. Need to take my queues from Abby and just go enjoy what's left of the afternoon. But first, maybe just a wee bit more wallowing.
Thanks again for the good wishes and the votes."

Jackie, we're so sorry to hear this news. Go ahead and wallow a bit, you need to grieve. We all know you'll buck up soon enough.

P.S. we voted!

TATE ~ Forever in our hearts.
voted! She looks like a wonderful girl.
I am so sorry for your news at the vet. I was just crying thinking how painful it would be to lose my boy so I can really relate to the "in your face" moment you had discovering the cancer has progressed. I hope that your time with her is magical, that you get every moment locked into your memory, enjoy and savor this special time.
Hugs,
Elizabeth and Sammy

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
Oh Abby, I'm sorry you got crappy news. I remember the day I got it too, but I did my best to put on my hoppy face which really helped my folks. I heard my Dad say something to my Mom like "there will be lots of time for tears later so stop crying!" She did. And then I ate VERY well and we had a great time for far longer than anyone thought pawsible.
Stick to your nutrition regimen and having a good time out there. Your enthusiasm for life and your courage is contagious, we can feel it from here!
Love you lots.
And of course we voted! xoxo

Jerry - you are so wise. I knew you guys would all make me feel better.
Do any of you follow cycling? I am a HUGE fan of the Tour de France (and cycling in general) and one of my favorite riders is Jens Voigt - a cyclist often described as "a beast of a man" who can really put the hurt on the other riders and make them suffer. There was a great article about him in the Wall Street Journal yesterday that said he often yells at his legs, "Shut up, legs!" when they start to hurt. I am going to start yelling at my eyes - "Stop it, eyes! Time for that is LATER!"
Speaking of sticking to her nutrition regimen, we specifically got the OK to try to get a few more pounds onto her (she's the 'perfect' weight at the moment but her onc wants her to have some padding). You know how super models can be, but I think there are going to be a few more treats, and a few more Frosty Paws, and a few more visits to In-N-Out for Flying Dutchmen in her future. (While of course keeping all the healthy, grain free stuff going into her too!)
Thanks again for the votes! Wanna see our beautiful girl in the paper! Gotta share her with everyone!

I'm really sorry to hear Abby's vet appointment didn't go as well as everyone hoped. But, I will echo what you've already heard a million times: Abby doesn't know she's sick, only you do.
It is unbelievably unfair that she is so young. But right now, she's happy and she has a family that loves her. May not have worked out so well for her if she had been adopted by someone else. Keep loving her up, because that's what Abby's going to do to you and your husband. I bet she had a great day today, despite what the darned x-rays showed. She's probably thinking tomorrow looks like a good day for Fiesta Island! (And In-N-Out for an after beach treat!)
Oh Jackie,
I'm so, so, so, so sorry about Abby.
It's not the end so here's what we are going to do...we are going to laugh, giggle, and even sing (poorly). We are going to don red party hats and celebrate each day! We are going to make sure your tears will only be tears of laughter from here on out! That's what we are going to do! That's how us Tripawd pawrents cope. Believe me when I say this, there is nothing better!
And when the time comes, we will then cry. But not now. We have a lot of life to live and by golly - let's live it!
If my Comet was here, she'd demand a peanut butter cookie because cookies make everything better! Give that Abby a Comet Cookie and I promise it will make everything better! Diets - Schmiets, we got some livin' to do!

Sorry about the news Abby. But you know who's fault it is? C-O-O-P-E-R's. He said lung mints weren't catchy, but being a wise monkeydog, I knew they were! And he gave them to YOU! It's his fault! But don't worry, at least you didn't get any Cooper Cooties - that would be WAY worse!

At least I'm not a dummyhead tripawd!!!
Good luck, Abby! Hope it's not too late, but we voted for you. You are the cutest lifeguard on three legs!!! Speaking of "lifeguard," I know you are being one right now with your pawrents. It's tough being the strong one, but we know you got the muscles. Our very best wishes and hugs to you and your family right now.
