That's excellent news Shanna!
I have a fear-snapper. Thanks goodness Comet has never bitten anyone but she likes to scare the bajeebies out of everyone! She has never been aggressive toward me even in her worst pain. I look back at the day I first was able to pet her and pick her up and she let me without reservations - had she bit or snapped, I would have walked away and never adopted her! Kismet!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
I don't know many folks who would choose to adopt a biter. Something in this dog spoke to Joyce. Early on, we almost made the decision to put Duke down because I wouldn't have a biter either, and his warnings were a fraction away from a bite. The only thing that saved him was a trainer friend who pointed out had he wanted to bite he would have. He was telling you to stop the only way he knew how. I'm happy there are trainer folks out there smarter than us common folks. The trick is to determine what is causing the reaction, and then decide if you have it in you to work until you win.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Sadie was an absolute love bug....unless you tried to groom her, or touched her hind quarters with too much pressure (which wasn't much.) We had to give her a "doggie downer" on grooming day, and she has snapped at one of the vets, and almost got me once (although I agree that if she wanted to bite, she would have.) The thing about her was that you never saw it coming. Our vet would remind the staff not to let their guard down, because she would be smiling, giving kisses, and wagging her tail, but if you touched her hips, boy would she let you know! The strange thing though, was that the day of her last vet visit, she let Dr. Yach thoroughly examine her knee and hip (like she really wanted him to figure out what was wrong with it, which of course, he did) Anyway, I'm so glad Gracie is doing well, and so happy that she found someone that wouldn't give up on her!
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

I hope no one minds me resurrecting an old thread, but I wanted to share some news with you all.
I entered Gracie in a dog show last weekend - a first for both of us, and she did really well! This was an all pit bull show and the competition was fierce (ba dump bump chhh!!). But she took second place in her age group and ended up winning Judge's Choice!!
I am so proud of the dog she has become. I still work really hard with her and due to her personality, I think I will always have to stay on top of things when it comes to her training. But that's OK, she is a dog that likes/needs structure in her life and I can deal with that . I just love her so much.
That is just such wonderful news. I was re-reading your old posts and was filled with such joy. Not everyone has it in them to be the pack leader of a strong, intelligent and dominant dog. It is a big challenge that is too oftern underestimated. The dog is often blamed when it is the person who is not the "right fit" for the dog. Congratulations to you and Gracie. It is an amazing achievement.
Karen and Spirit Magnum
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
OH WOW! I'm so, so, so proud of Gracie!
For those that don't know....Rockie's mom wasn't even for sure he was going to work out because he had some "issues". What a difference a year(?) and love makes!
