I was hoping I might be able to get some help from the Tripawds group with regards to an insurance survey I am doing. Basically I want to know if people have pet insurance and if they do what they think of it. If they dont why they dont have it. My reason for wanting to know this is because not everyone can afford the high cost of vet bills without it and yet so few people in the big scheme of it have it.
The insurance companies are on notice I have this survey going as WE the pet owners want to be heard as to what we want if we are going to get it. I do know that there are changes in the wind with some companies and I did a challenge to one of them today. Four different people tried without success to convince me what they were doing was acceptable to pet owners. It was unacceptable and I intend naming them on my FB page as in this instance my view is people (including me personally have been shafted).
The survey takes less than 5 mins, is completely anonymous as I dont ask for names, emails or similar but I am trying to get at least 5000 people complete it worldwide. I would really appreciate it if you could all help me so I can take this on. If you could email the link to your contacts ask them to all do the same that would be fantastic.
From where I sit as a passionate advocate on canine cancer and finding answers and cures(and one that takes up most of my time) treatments for cancer are not cheap. Most of you will know that. If people had pet insurance it would give more choices for owners and options of better treatments. End result dogs have a win. I do not align with any particular company nor do I intend to. All I want is our dogs getting the best chance to fight this horrible disease. Unfortanately not everyone can do it without pet insurance.
Thanks in advance to everyone. I can assure you the top people in the industry and calling me and I fully intend to go into bat for our pets if people can help me with this.

I did not have it for Sassy nor do I have it for Bosch. I will take the survey. It costs me right now for 2 dogs (almost 9 month old Rottweilers )128.08 through Healthy Paws. Its 64.04 each a month and its $250 deductible with 90 % reimbursement no caps but a year waiting on hip displaysia. A couple of other people recommended them. I had another one I was looking at too. It was about the same price.
Bosch is 8 and has a major preexisting condition. He has perianal fistulas.

I'm happy to take your survey and I'm happy to post a link to it on my FB page, but I'm not willing to turn over my contacts.
In a nutshell, I had VPI's superior plan with a cancer rider. It was something like $59/month for my 9 y.o. Labrador Retriever. I got it when she was 2 months old b/c I never wanted to be in a position where I couldn't give her the best care. (I'm pretty sure I became aware of it thru a very large, global employer who offered it as an employee benefit. The premiums were deducted from my paycheck.) The cancer coverage was pretty darn amazing. I can look up the actual costs / reimbursement but if memory serves me right they reimbursed all but $150 or so for amputation that cost around $2,600. There was also excellent coverage for all treatments except homeopathic. Coverage for non-cancer issues, especially "breed specific" issues like dysplasia, skin issues, etc was pretty lame. I'll give details in survey if you wish. I kept great records and know for sure that I crossed from "in the red" to very much "in the black" (by several thousand dollars) in the last year or year and a half of my pup's life. Interestingly, we do not have insurance for our younger Labrador - at least not yet.

We are strong believers in pet insurance and currently have it for our Wyatt. His Pet's Best policy is relatively inexpensive and does cover all cancer treatments as well therapy up to the amount we're under contract for, which I believe is $7k a year max (with a lifetime cap that right now I don't have the #s for).

Thanks for your feedback. I would NEVER want anyones contact list Just if the word could be passed around and emailed to friends etc that sort of thing. I only wanted quick for the survey so it gives a general idea as to what people like and dont like so insurers can reasses any areas that are not working for pet owners. The way I see it is we all want the best for our pets and sometimes vet expenses are unaffordable to people without it. I am just glad when Frodo got his cancer I didnt have to worry about the money side to it. When he passed away from the vincas over Eater they paid me within 36hrs which was suprising. What was even more suprising is that I thought the vet bill would be so much more than it was as he had everything possible given to him.

Thanks for the fb post. More responses are always needed if a message is to be sent to pet insurers.

We don't have pet insurance and that was clearly a mistake (that I won't make again!) Now would like to get insurance, and ASPCA will only cover accidents/injury because cancer and the amputation are a pre-existing condition. I will go for the ASPCA plan if I can't find anything better - but if anyone has a suggestions please let me know! I am checking out the companies mentioned in this thread to see if I get a better quote there.

We're with you on that, we didn't have it when we dealt with cancer but our Wyatt Ray has been insured since he was a puppy.
