I have no idea how I am just now seeing this thread, but yes, we will POUR the recommendations in to wherever you need them to go! I agree completely with everything Christine said. I know we all grieve differently, and when my Jake died I swore I'd never have another dog..a couple weeks later I stumbled upon Tanner's photograph and my heart jumped out of my chest. I had Jake for 12 years, and the silence in my house those couple of weeks without having a dog was deafening. Like Christine said, we are meant to be trampled at the bridge with slobbery kisses! Adopting a new pup doesn't make you forget. All the memories of Shelby, all the love you had for each other stays with you forever...your heart will just grow like you had no idea it could!!

Well said Elizabeth!!!
Christine... with Franklin in her heart♥
Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012. Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013. Always in my heart, and always a guardian angel of my pack... You can follow his Tripawd Adventures, before and after, in my blog, Frank'n'Farter!

Very well said Elizabeth!!! I definitely hear you on the silence in the home .. But I swear I hear 'breathing' or things moving which leads me to believe that Shelby is haunting me. She was such a little PITA sometimes, I wouldn't put it past her (and her onco said she would haunt me - LOL). But thank you for your wisdom and always being such a positive light/force for us here. That is definitely something I didn't even consider - that my heart would love with that kind of intensity again!
And thank you all for offering to write recommendations as needed! I hope once I start volunteering, they will see me as the amazing pet caregiver I am (if I know one thing about me to be true is that w/out fail, I am a good dog mom. Caring for Shelby as I did is the one thing in my life I am the most proud of - that and qualifying for Boston).
I love this community so very much ... I love that I can go through the emotions around getting a new dog and everyone has been so supportive! By tentatively coming up with some names, I think I am inching closer than I want to admit to myself.
But you are right, Christine - I am holding myself back from being happy. The volunteering and being around fur-babies will help a lot and who knows... this summer might bring me a new best friend!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
