Ok. I've been pawsing and reflecting since 4:00 AM. At first - listening to the wind howling outside and rattling my window - I simply pulled the covers over my head after hauling little furnace Riley onto the bed for warmth and prayed that it was Saturday.
Not.
The weather, by the way - my well-publicized obsession (actually, most Albertans are obsessed with the weather and we have the home weather systems to prove it) - is currently, in case anyone is interested: light snow, -14C (feels like -22C with a NE wind of 15 km/h); for those unfamiliar with celsius that's 6F but feels like -8 with a NE wind of 9m/h)
And this is just the START of winter.
To kill some time before I have to get ready to go to work and because I've been feeling yucky and emotional and pushed around and betrayed this week , I dug out my copy of "Backwards in High Heels: the Impossible Art of Being Female" by Tania Kindersley & Sarah Vine. I thought I'd share the following:
"THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO AS YOU GET OLD[er ]
Never again have to go to the gym and do physical jerks while an idiot in a leotard shouts things like, "Yeah, ladies, take it to the max! or "Come on, girls, feel where it's coming from!"
Admit that you actually like going to bed at 9:30 PM with a good book and a cup of Lapsang Souchong tea.
Never have to sit at a bus stop in a very small skirt at 3AM waiting for the N70.
Never have to go to some rural music festival and share a lav with 100,000 stoned people.
Always have a useful supply of stamps in your purse (older people always have stamps in their purse. It's the Law).
Stop shopping in Topshop.
Stop pretending that you like experimental dance.
Take as long as you damn well need to pull out at intersections.
Wear socks in bed.
Stop making excuses.
Pretend selective deafness."
Just for fun - anyone have anything else to add? I'm sure I have a few of my own, but it's time to get out of bed to get ready for the day. It takes me half an hour just to put on all my winter gear to leave the house.
Have a great day everyone.

LOVE IT!
Oh, oh, oh! I can now openly and honestly admit I love to shop at thrift stores! As a poor young person, it felt disgraceful but now, it's a hobby!
And thank goodness for old age - I don't have to ever wear a mini skirt again when it's in fashion! I always hated my ugly knees and now I'm "too old" and don't have to ever think about a mini-skirt again! (no offense to those that want to wear one)

Great thread Carmen. Your weather sounds beautiful by the way .
I had a couple of things I wanted to add to the list but now I've gone and forgotten what they were. Shucks.....hopefully I will remember them after my nap.
Well, I certainly hope it's not offensive to anyone Cometdog because I intend on wearing my mini-skirt for many years to come.
HAHA, Brett. Can we get a picture of you in your mini-skirt? Please? How mini is it?
And no. Our weather the last few days has sucked. No easing into winter here. It simply roars in.
Poor Catie, already three-legged, tried to be a two-legged dog at the park today because when her remaining paws got too cold, she'd alternate lifting the chilliest one up out of the snow and invariably fall over. Poor girl. But she's a trooper. She'd just get up and try again. Needless to say, their outing was short. I've dug out their little booties for the next trip. Catie tolerates them okay; Riley kind of freezes with a mortified look on his face and when he does finally walk each step is big and exaggerated like he's stepping over foot high hurdles.

Geez Brett- its like you are waving a red cape at Cometdog. I can hear the wheels turning from here....' all I need is a pic of Brett off the blog, a mini skirt shot, and my trusty photoshop, bwaaaaahaaaaaaaa'.
I would throw in the ring that as I've gotten old(er) I am much less worried about what people think of me. If I was younger when Maggie had her amp I would have been mortified that I had to push my pug in a stroller. But with a little, um, 'maturity' I never gave it a second thought.
Oh, and comfortable shoes...the heck with fashion- I am not going to let my feet hurt all day!!
And Carmen- I can sure relate to the weather. It must have been down in the 60's today, brrrrrrrrr!!! You know us wimpy Californians .

DOWN in the 60s, Karen??? That's 50 degrees warmer than here and considered sunbathing, turn-on-the-air-conditioner-NOW weather for us! I'd be at the beach in a heartbeat.
